Marcus Davenport

he'll go top 18....Brugler has him off the board to GB.
Id LOVE him at 19....gives us DLaw,Taco and Big Marcus....thats a helluva DE group.
also....gives us someone to fill in at the David Irving role when he's suspended for who knows what or hurt.

With Davenport, once he developes he could rush from any gap at a high level.

Its very rare to be able to rush effectively from both a 9 and a 6 gap. In the last two classes, that is Garrett and Chubb and thats it

I love his size and his atleticisim.
It also provides GREAT insurance....what if a deal next yr with DLaw falls thru,or he's inconsistent....what if they do move on from David Irving.....Davenport makes a ton of sense IF he is there.
I think he is a top 15 guy.

I agree. If he is a target of theirs, they need to trade up.

There is room for all three of them. Davenport can be on the field with either Lawrence or Charlton. Its a diverse group and would be a legitimatel dynamic rotation

Nice 40 time, but Taco had a better 3 cone.

3 cone and short shuttles are where it's at for pass rushers as you want to see ability to bend and short area quickness.

I still don't like him in the 1st.

Better than Bradley Chubbs too. That was interesting and alarming for both players. Chubbs tape might too good though

Yea Chubb's was alarming as well, but his tape backs up his draft stock.

Back to back years of really, really good tape.
There combine kind of reminds me of Takk's last year. Showed explosive speed, but poor short area agility. They weren't quite as bad as Takks though

Which is exactly why I pushed Takk out of the 1st round...

STRENGTHS

Marcus has the talent, size, athletic abilities, and body type that reminds me of former Cowboys/Broncos DeMarcus Ware. He has an excellent burst off the line of scrimmage along with the foot speed and agility to turn the corner and make a sack. He has solid linebacker skills to be used in any style of defensive front and is stout against the run. Marcus is a natural pass rusher. Although his skills are raw, he's smart and seems to be a hard worker. He can make impact plays and any player with that type of work ethic, athletic talent, and size has to be taken seriously as a potential impact, play making, defensive player. There is no limit to this kid’s ability on the field to impact and although Marcus is raw right now he showed me (in Senior Bowl week) his work ethic and ability to take what he learns in practice on to the field.

CONCERNS
Marcus struggles to play from a three point stance losing leverage and lacking the hand usage techniques to regain leverage and attack from that position. Nevertheless, Marcus showed me in week long practices at the Senior Bowl that it’s just a matter of time and good coaching before he becomes the outstanding player his athletic talents suggest that he will become.

BOTTOM LINE
Marcus has the maturity and talent to have as good a career as DeMarcus Ware. The sack in the Senior Bowl game showed me how quickly Marcus can learn. He struggled all week long in the practices because he was trying to learn new techniques from the coaches and use them. Most of the time he was only successful because of his athletic talent but that sack in the game came easy to him. Marcus was shown how to take a better angle to the quarterback in practice and to set up his opponent to make a second move to make a sack. All week long Marcus struggled with this new technique. But, he kept working on it. Then, in the game, he tried the move and it worked and his body language screamed that he finally got it. He finally understood that strength and athleticism is how you gain advantage over your opponent but techniques and football intelligence is what allows you to finish and make impact plays. Marcus is the type of player who will become more impacting at the NFL level than he was at the college level. He has not peaked and once he learns the pass rushing skills and techniques needed to set up his opponent and finish plays he will become as impacting and complete a defensive player as DeMarcus Ware was.
