Davenport is an exciting but high risk pick.

Pro
  • Quick and very strong.
  • Plays with good leverage despite being 6-6.
  • Was not lost against big school Baylor.
Con
  • Raw
  • Wins many snaps with power which won't happen often in the NFL.
  • Wins in more straight line-ish fashion than bend around the corner.

His ability to play low despite height reminds me of David Irving.

Overall he reminds me of Ziggy Ansah in college.

The interview is much more important for some players than others. I can see a player like Calvin Ridley on the field and know that he understands football fairly well. For a player like Davenport to be a first round pick, a team needs to have a good feeling about his ability to understand an NFL scheme and needs to know he has the required intensity to overcome his limited to non-existant experience against NFL type talent. I think a 5 minute conversation with DWare would have been all that was needed to know he had the correct mental-makeup.

I would take him over Harold Landry but I'm not 100% comfortable drafting either at #19.

I don't know X. Landry is interesting, especially if you watch his 2017 film. He is way more effective when you put him on the field with other talent. This past season, he was really the only guy and you saw it. I don't have a problem with Davenport though. I think there is a lot to like there, as an edge rusher. Maybe gives you a little more in the run game.

It's not just the run game where the power can show up. Some pass rusher can take a hard edge such that the OT struggles to push them off their line to the QB; whereas, many speed rushers can easily be pushed wide and deep past the QB.

This concept was part of what made Greg Hardy a great pass rusher. OTa struggled to re-route him. There are faster pass rushers than Hardy but they often have to cover more ground to get to the QB when their paths get pushed wide. Hardy could go almost in a straight path to the QB which is obviously the shortest path.

I agree with that. I think Landry gives you more with his ability to play in space but Davenport is a good 4 inches taller and 20 lbs heavier. That's going to project out in the NFL.

I’d be okay with Davenport being the pick. There’s not a reliable true RDE on the roster. Gregory likes to get high too much and Tapper can’t stay healthy. If DLaw isn’t resigned next year then the End position suddenly doesn’t look so good.

Taco and Davenport would make a nice pair of book ends for the future.

Just by talent alone, Davenport couldn't hold Gregory's jock.

Riddley is too small...189lbs.....no WR under 190 lbs has made a Pro Bowl in 10 years
Thats false!
Antonio Brown was drafted at 5'11 186 lbs. and he is a good comparison imo. I can dig up several more who were drafted at that weight. Desean Jackson ring a bell?
All Pros and busts come in all sizes

We all don't have the luxurious time you do to go around proof reading. Some of us have jobs, families and other activities. Not everyone can be so lucky to be in there 50s and single living in the bedroom they grew up in, scraping together nickels just to pay for the internet connection.

Actually I have a 4500 sqft house. Hot girlfriend lives with me. Kids grown. 4 dogs. Work from home 3/4 of the time, travel the other quarter.

I need two wireless routers to cover the entire house. Cable internet but generally post from my phone.

Also I bought a house for my Mom, remodeled it myself. Gutted it down to the studs and rebuilt everything. I even refinished the original hardwood floors which look better than new wood floors.

If I could move back to where I grew up, I would love it. We had a small farm in a small town just outside DFW. It was such a cool town that it has now been overrun by wealthy Urban Cowboy types that spend hundreds of thousands on Cutting Horses.

Anything else you would like to know?

Wow, 4 dogs and 2 routers in a 4.5k home in Texas. Very jealous.

At his age, he is not going to grow much if any at all. He also comes from a college that has better strength and conditioning program that most NFL teams are envious of.

So if he has a cheeseburger with fries and a large Coke and gains a pound, would you feel better about him?

If their is any chance that Gregory gets reinstated Davenport will not be the pick IMO. They are very similar players.
They are nothing alike. Davenport is similar to a Taco. Very similar actually.
