You can always tell how good a player is based on the number of snaps he logs... with the loss of Canty and Tank, Spears sould shoulder a bigger load this season. A glaring need is at the backup NG, a position the Cowboys experiment with Spears was welcomed, where the Cowboys have Siavii.
The Competition for this job has been like most competitons in Dallas, someone winning by default but mostly someone being anointed, the former being the case with Siavii. Most NFL fans would agree Siavii is not ready to log significant playing time and Spears should be able to upgrade that position.
If the backup NG spot becomes a weak spot, will the coaches ask Spears to live up to his draft status and fill the load? Based on the depth chart and the preseason rotation, it is clear Spears will get the same amout of snaps if less, than undrafted teammates like Bowen. If his snaps are on par with guys of lesser stature along the DL, I would expect Spears fans to demand more playing time and or be confused as to what the coaches are thinking.
In short, I hope the coaches arent worried about diminishing returns when it comes to playing Spears... Great players, at half speed, are better than guys like Siavii, lets just hope Spears is that player for the Cowboys!
