I sincerely doubt that most fans care whether or not the players smoke pot. Most fans care if they fail drug tests and get suspended, that's it. As long as they are smart enough to stay out of the program they don't have to submit to random tests and they can do whatever they want during the season, since the NFL isn't drug testing them during the season. Play well, don't get suspended, and nobody cares.

There were a lot of fans that took direct issue with marijuana being involved in the incidents (certainly w Gregory). I agree wholeheartedly with everything else you wrote, tho
