Marine returning home greeted by 6-year-old son who learned to walk while his dad was gone (VIDEO)
By Dylan Stableford | The Sideshow – 12 hrs ago

In a heartwarming video that will soon be flooding email inboxes, Facebook walls and Twitter feeds, a U.S. marine returning home from Afghanistan is greeted by his 6-year-old son at a ceremony inside a school gymnasium. The boy, who had cerebral palsy, was unable to walk when his father, Staff Sgt. Jeremy Cooney, was deployed.
"While daddy was away, he learned to walk," Melissa Cooney, the boy's mother, explained on the WelcomeHomeBlog.com. "For his homecoming, we set it up for Michael to walk to his daddy for the first time ever! We kept the fact that he could walk a secret the whole time his dad was gone!"
"Your children are so very proud of you," an announcer tells Cooney, a father of six, over the gym's loudspeaker.

Something about being a parent. These shared moments just kill me with emotion.

God bless that little man and his family.

I hear ya. 15 years ago, I would have thought this was cool, good for the boy kind of thing. Today, I'm trying to hold back some tears, heh

These videos tear me up.

The amount that these people give up in order to protect the rest of us is so vastly understated at times.

Births, first steps and words, birthdays and graduations.

Truly remarkable people.

I love that they still tear me up.

Same for me, but 5 years ago i would have said it's sweet...now i have to hold back.

Must be an incredible moment for that family, glad the dad came back safe.

That's a very heartwarming video.

I've made lot of deployments and detachments in 20 years and the family separation was very difficult to deal with, you miss out so much of your kid's events/activities and no amount of compensation can ever make up for loss of precious moments with your family.
