If he fails to put together a strategy in stopping Jimmy Graham, it's going to be a long day for us against the Saints.

We have yet to slow down a single tight end so far this season, and Graham is probably the most dangerous.

He can plan all he likes, but does he have the horses to execute the plan?

It will be a challenge as it is for every team having to cover Graham. 6'7" with good speed, hands and knows how to get up in the air to snatch the ball. He will make plays and somehow the Cowboys defense have to find ways to make plays and win some 3rd down battles.

Every team plans for Graham.
Graham usually wins.

Do you not think that every team has planned for Jimmy Graham the last few years?

You can plan for him all you want but chances are he is going to get his.

And if some way comes about that your team pretty shuts him down, it probably means that Colston or Cooks will eat you alive.

I will go out on a limb and say maybe we should try to stop Drew Brees more than any other player on the Saints Offense.

No doubt you can't double everyone Dallas can try to use LB under and Safety over the top but then you leave yourself open somewhere else. I'm sure Cowboys will try to show different looks through out the game.

You gameplan for him and something else goes wrong. You repair one gunshot wound and 2 others pop up. And that's what I believe will happen. Someone else will tear us apart.

I don't think you can "stop" Brees or the Aint's. Our defense is depleted and still learning itself. I don't think people realize how much youth we have on that defense. Brees and Payton are smart guys.

Another misconception about the Aint's is that they just pass the ball all the time. They're run game can be just as deadly if you don't contain it. That should be the focus on something they can actually stop. Worry about the run and getting off the field on 3rd downs and trying to generate some turnovers. Stopping Jimmy Graham......it shouldn't even be a focus at this point. He's going to get his more often than not and that's not just against us that's against every team in the league.

But in recent memory......I remember the Patriots playing Jimmy Graham with cornerback Aqib Talib and having some success that game. Maybe a Brandon Carr on him wouldn't be the worst gameplan.

i would be fine with doubling Graham on 3rd downs and / or assigning one of the DBs to sit on Graham's route and jump it every time ( i know this is a 50 / 50 gamble ) if, at the very least, to make Drew think just a tad more about throwing to him

phyisically, there is nobody on the defensive roster that can match up with Graham, so I'd rather give myself some semblance of a chance rather than just playing it safe and getting carved up all day

The Toomer is the answer to trying to plan for Graham. He is the best size/speed combination on the roster and excels in coverage (reportedly).

What worries me when we face a team like the Saints is not just the issue of stopping Jimmy Graham, but more that they have a lot of different other chess pieces they can use if we dedicate ourselves to Jimmy Graham. The game plan for stopping Graham may be very solid, but the issue is we do not have the horses to deal with the swiss army knife of weapons that Brees has. Cooks is shifty, Colston is big and fast, Stills is a burner, and Thomas is a great pass-catching running back. To counter a team like that you need to jam guys and apply pressure, and so this is the type of game where not having a good defensive line kills you. Seattle and New England gave a very solid blueprint for stopping Graham, but it is a matter of executing on the other 10 guys that is the problem.

OScan needs to lower the boom on him. Early in the game.
lol what?

For one thing, Scandrick never really "lowers the boom" on anybody. On top of that, he's way too small and lacks the ball skills to actually cover Graham. Good as Scandrick may be, unless he's a part of a bracket on Graham, he won't be anywhere near him.

Scandrick will have to shut down Stills and/or Cook.

No, no, no, no.

Jimmy Graham needs to plan for Rod Marinelli.

Yeah, now your coming around to like this Defense.....:D

I say chip him off the LOS every play. none of this 10 yards off BS. Be physical from snap 1.

You can't cover Graham with a LB. He eats safeties for lunch as well. He lines up like a WR at times so you really have to treat him as one and put a cb on him in space.

NE shut him down last year by having Talib follow him all game

The coaches dont like him for some reason, they prefered to play an undrafted free agent over him when Carter got injured,
