This may come across as beating a dead horse, but it's an honest question:

Seems even the Boys own website is kicking the tires on a 4-3 switch and the possibility of Mario Williams, which brings me to my question.

Would the Cowboys own website be kicking around this kind of talk if there was not some possible talk/interest coming out of the front office? Granted I could see this site and countless others banging it around, but it just seems odd to me that even DC.com is knocking it around.

Flame away.

I wouldn't be opposed to returning to the 4-3 rather than a hybrid

I'm in the camp that would not mind it either. As crazy as those of us campers seem to be around here.

I think we do some 4-3 along with the 3-4 now. Dallas does not run a conventional 3-4 defense. Getting Williams is not going to change that.

I found the perfect defensive playbook that fits the demand. The best part is not too many people know about it. There's this rather obscure video game title called Madden. I think there were only a few copies made for the PS3...very rare. Anywho, I just so happen to have one of them. On the game it's called the Balance Defense. I know, it sounds crazy, but it just might work!

There's never been any evidence that the writers on the team website have any particular insight into the Cowboys' plans.

I read that article on the dallas cowboys homepage. It suggested offering Mario Williams the same exact contract that was given to Ware with all the guaranteed money as well. Mario Williams already said that he would not sign soley for money but would go where he fits best. I don't know if he was sincere or just saying all the right things before FA. Would Williams would strongly consider Dallas if they offered him DWare money because he has the potential to get much more right now? If he were to take less to sign with Dallas he would still make more than enough to set himself for life and the possibility of playing opposite from one the greatest pass rushers ever has to be at least a little intruguing. How much money is enough?

I sincerely hope that where there is smoke there is fire but somehow I doubt it. For whatever reason Jerry seems to like the 3 - 4 no matter how bad we play it. Switching to a 4 - 3 with Ware and Williams as bookends with Rat and Lissemore in the middle would be killer. In a 3 - 4 , too often one of the OLB's has to drop into coverage. In a 4 -3 a DE has two responsibilities. Getting to the QB on passing plays and outside containment on running plays. Ware and Williams would make an awesome tandem for this. Come on Jerry, make it happen!!!!!!!:bounce:

I didn't know Jerry was the defensive coordinator now. Learn something every day. It also seems like he has REALLLLY let himself go.

I want Mario big time!
He is a freak and those do not grow on trees and he is still young

To me it seems like we could easily transition to a 4-3 with Williams and would take away some of our LB issues. 3-4 defenses should be deep at LB and we are not. However, we have quite a few good D lineman. I think Rat is a perfect DT in a 4-3 in the mold of a Glover or Randle. Ware could be a DE similar to a Haley. Lissemore, Brent, Hatcher and Spears could battle it out for the other DT spot and provide depth for a solid DL rotation. Hatcher could play DE as well. Lee is a perfect MLB, Carter is a prototypical WLB, Butler could be ans SLB or we could get a solid FA/draft choice to fill that spot. There are many guys in this draft that seem to be made for a 4-3 so we could also get help from the draft. Currently we have Ware and Lee at starting LB. Carter seems like less natural fit at ILB than he does at 4-3 WLB. The Spencer thing is up in the air and I'd much rather pay big FA bucks to a guy like Mario who can rush the passer. It seems like the 3-4 has put us into a position were we are desperate to find guys that are not really out there right now (good pass rushing 3-4 OLBs). Even many of the better pass rushers in the draft seem to be more of a fit in a 4-3. I think Williams and Ware off the edges with Rat and Hatcher/Lissemore inside on 3rd down would give us the pass rush we need to protect the leads that our offense can give us.

We won 3 SB titles playing the 4-3 and we have won jack playing the 3-4.

Frankly, our 3-4 sucks. We really dont have the right personnel to be running the 3-4 but we try to do it anyways............amazing.

I think those titles were in the 90's....the team had exceptional talent on both sides of the ball. This team does not (especially on both the offensive and defensive lines) regardless of the scheme.

Excellent post.I agree wholeheartedly!!! IMHO the 3 - 4 experiment has been a failure. Our personnel is better suited for the 4 - 3. A DL with Ware and Williams as bookends and Rat / Lissemore inside would be devastating. We also would have some depth for the DL as you pointed out.
