We all have discussed this subject matter numerous times. Is Marion Barber a full-time rb?

No one will know till he actually is given the chance, but what I want to know... or maybe I missed it... is why hasn't Barber been more vocal about his ability to handle a full-time rb load?

I don't mean that he has to come and be rude or overly vocal about his abilities, but make a statement to just say that he can handle the load no matter how hard he runs... or something to let everyone know what he knows he can do or not do.

The only reason he might not have said something in the past... is most likely having respect for Julius being on the team and not trying to hurt his feelings.

Anybody ever hear him say anything on this subject?

I do know one thing, if it was Greg Ellis and he heard that they were trying to draft another LB, he would have already starting crying compared to how Barber hasn't said much about McFadden or another rb being picked in this years draft.

Nope he died out in the 3rd in the playoffs against a team that Jones helped us beat twice that same year. And he was coming off a bye.
I know a lot of you are going to say that it was a team effort in losing but I expected to see a lot more from Marion when you finally get your chance after being in a shadow you tend to do your best to show how good you really are but not Barber.
The guy is a good change of pace back I will give him that, He just isn't a work horse.

well wasnt there a knock on him that he's never been a full time back. He looked exhausted after 20 or so carries against the giants. he is amazing for about that amount per game. imo.

His silence just seems like...

- he doesn't care and just wants to play ball

- doesn't want to hurt his stock with a new deal coming up

- isn't really confident that he could handle a full load since he has never done so

- just wants to stay respectful and doesn't think there is a need to say anything

My guess is the latter...

MBIII is a very low key kid. He doesn't speak much and from everything I've heard about him, living up here in his home territory, he's isn't comfortable being in the lime light and shies away from the media. He's very refreshing as far as todays athletes go. He keeps his mouth shut and lets his play do the talking.

You look at his track record in college and he and maroney excelled together.

Personally, I don't think Barber cares whose got the ball so long as they are getting the job done.

I think he understands the value in a 2 back system and would rather it be that way.

Another thing, Im not sure hes the vocal type really. He might just be to quiet to want to say anything. I could see him being one of those guys who has the mentality that if they do their job, everything will take care of itself. No need to get impatient and cause problems.

I dont think Marion BArber can last very long as a full time back for a long time. We have to use HIm effectively now. Give HIM somebody that isnt named Julius Jones to spare HIm and have Him pound the ball in the second half!.

Barber is a class act. Not many athletes like him around these days... probably has to do with how his dad raised him.

Having said that, I don't think he could last 16 games carrying the ball 20-25 times a game with that "balls out" running style of his. Not a knock against his toughness at all but it's such a brutal sport that he wouldn't hold up a full season being a primary back in the NFl. Just my opinion.... Dallas likely agrees or they would have started him a long time ago. Don't get me wrong though... I love the guy and I do NOT want to trade him.

Absolutely.

I dont even care if he can be a fulltime back. I want him sprinkled into the plays of the game. We have found this man's strengths. USE THEM..... WISELY

Furthermore.... with his runnings style we could quite possibly ruin him or end his career going the starter route.

MANY.... ON HERE... HAVE SAID.... "If it aint broken, dont fix it"

FIX the Primary back situation. Gotta focus. :)

He CAN certainly handle the load.

But I think it's in his and the team's best interest to limit his carries. As evidence of the playoff loss, he can perform from the start but serves us best as the closer. I have done a full 360 on this topic over the years and have ultimately decided that we need to continue to use him effectively in that role. NO ONE smells the endzone or abuses worn down defenses the way the Barbarian does.

Replace JJ with a young, homerunning speed-demon and watch the magic happen in our run game.

Felix Jones just might be a great fit if his stock falls a little. And of course he's not the homerun threat necessarily but I think Ray Rice is going to be a value if he stays on the board past the 1st round.

Prove that he can handle the load. All I hear is speculation. People THINK he will be a good #1 but last time he had his chance as a #1 we lost in a playoff home game against a team we beat twice that same season with Jones.
There is more evidence of him being nothing more then a good change of pace back then him being a work horse. Everyone gets all excited over his style of play and I will admitt that his style is very exciting but it is not a style that will allow him to last long in the NFL. He allso couldn't last a full 4 quarters in the playoff game after having a bye week to rest up.

Love how MB3 just plays without talking much, as others have said.

But yeah, I do have my doubts about how he'd do as a full-time back. I may be the only one, but I just have a bad feeling about giving him *too* big a contract when he's literally had one game of being the true, lead tailback for us.

He plays so hard and of course you have to love that, but... I dunno. I'm just not sure he's truly one of THE best backs in the league, or would be with a bunch more carries.

What's the big deal about MBIII and his "role" on the team? Give him 20 carries and feed whomever backs him up the scraps! Are you guys questioning whether or not he can handle that type of workload or is the 30 carry range you're referring to? I ask because not too many backs carry the rock over 30 times a game anymore so I think it'll be ridiculous to think that he'll be asked to do as much. Barber isn't a concern IMO, as much as whose replacing him coming off the bench.
