Marist Liufau is getting some love as a draft-day steal.

The Dallas Cowboys see another defensive chess piece in third-round linebacker Marist Liufau.

“Number one, he’s brilliant,” defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer told reporters. “He catches on really quick. He wants to be so good and so intense that he’s almost too much at it right now. The other thing is I think he’s a really good pressure player and I think having that with (Micah) Parsons and another pressure player that is a linebacker or he can move somewhere else and Parsons can move somewhere else. I think those pieces add to confusion for the offense, plus he’s a really good rusher. “

Liufau isn’t just a box player, though. He didn’t allow a single touchdown when in coverage over the last two seasons, according to Pro Football Focus.

I will be honest.....I have overlooked this kid but obviously Zim loves him.
Two years from now it won’t matter where he was selected.

People dislike this pick because he wasn’t a running back and went about a round higher. We did not have a pick in the 4th so we needed to go a bit higher.

He is a smart player and shows upside

Sounds like Dallas has so much linebacker talent that they could probably switch a few to the OL, which sounds thin in comparison.

We say that about almost every one of our picks every year. Yawn.
First of all, that's not true and some of hype were untrue.

However there's that flip side of the coin some of you hated the Tyler Smith pick said he was going to be a project they hated the fact that we picked Micah Parsons so high not me but there are people around here that thought he was a in the box linebacker off the ball only and we should have never picked him that high even though we traded down and got an extra third round pick for him, people were unhappy... same thing about Frederick and there's been people, or I should say fans and experts so-called experts calling those bad pics about where they were picked again like people said it won't matter where they're if they turn out to be good that's great it's not hype they're saying his potential is sky high like he has a high ceiling will he ever reach that nobody really knows..

Form the numerous videos that have been posted about Liafau during the draft process, the ONE issue I've seen with him is his tackling technique is NOT good - leads to him falling off ball carriers A LOT. But, that can actually be cleaned up. What those videos also showed though was a player that ALWAYS seems to know where to be, which (to me) is the MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT of playing LB at any level. I'm betting that's the intelligence Zimmer is constantly referring to when discussing this kid.

2 years we will know if it was a good or bad pick. Where a guy was picked really doesn’t matter. All that matters is can he be an impactful player

It’s not fair to the rest of the league. Our no 5 LB is the steal of the draft. That must be one hell of a LB corp. Plus we have the best QB in the league. The best WR and the best defensive player. Just ask their agents. No need to look for actual accomplishments Just look at those stats. That’s what matters.

We also have the worst fans in the league.
