Just wondering what your opinions are on him. I've seen just about every "report" on his play there is. Some sites have him listed as a Top 20 player in the draft (or at least Top 10 NFL Ready) and other sites say he's a mid 2nd rounder.

I think he may be a surprise pick for us in the 2nd round if he's there. Cowboys have a way of surprising in rounds 2 and/or 3 every year.

I think he's an interesting prospect. I just think until we see how he does at the combine that he could be one of those strong safety's who's a little too big and slow to be effective vs the pass... Now vs the run the guy is already a force.

Your concerns are legit . Barron can get beat on the deep ball worse than Roy Williams . I really don't want to go through that again .

That's what I was afraid of.

I'd take a strong safety who was about 6'1, 205 and who could run the 40 in less than 4.5 seconds.

Maybe not as much a force vs run but can cover a slot receiver if need be.

Good player but a step slow and a Strong Safety only type. We have an abundance of those already.

yeah we already have sensy a SS playing FS. We need to get a real FS and move sensy back to SS.

I was under the impression that in Rob's scheme, the difference between SS and FS is negligible.

That's true.

Both safeties need to be able to tackle and cover equally well.

You mean they both have to let the WR get behind them?

And for a long time now, that's happened in the schemes/coaching of Rob Ryan, Wade Phillips, Brian Stewart, Mike Zimmer, Dave Campo, Loretta Lynn, Ice-T, Val Kilmer and Halle Berry. By now, it must be the players. By-the-way, you guys won't mind if Ms. Berry retires to my place. Thanks!

Too bad this isnt the NBA where you can buyout a contract (or can you?)

This team doesnt need anymore textbook strong safeties, just have two FS on the field.

I really think Guy JR from Kentucky fits that description. Would love if we could get him in the 3rd round.

this scouting report by Scouts through BSPN is wrong ?

S Mark Barron (6-1 1/2, 223; 93)

Barron isn't an elite athlete, but what he lacks in fluidity he makes up for with instincts and closing burst. He's just as capable of making a big play on the deep ball as he is of being a solid run-stopper when playing in the box. Barron is the only safety in the 2012 class with a first-round grade.

I'll admit that I haven't seen Barron often this year, but the times I've seen him, he's everything I think a safety should be.

an interesting scouting video of Barron made in 2010. The video highlights both the possitive and negatives. Oddly enough, on the negative side, his bad plays mostly came against the run because of him taking bad angles. He had a pretty terrible game against Auburn in coverage, but the good news there wasn't because he was slow, but because he guessed wrong in one play and took the wrong angle on the other one.

As far as being able to cover, the plays at the following timelines:

1:27
2:24
2:50
4:00
4:18

show that he shouldn't have a problem doing so in the NFL. He does take bad angles from time to time, but that's nothing that good coaching couldn't take care of.
