Mark this one down, because I'll be referring back to it for the next couple of years

We should take Mark Ingram in the first round. We could probably trade down a few spots, pick up a third-rounder, and still get him. I think he's going to be a big time difference maker, and we shouldn't pass him up.

The only guys in this draft I would take before Ingram would be Peterson, Green and Dareus (Fairley and Bowers aren't ideally suited to a 3-4).

Pass on Ingram and we'll regret it.

I'd love to have Ingram, but what do we do with the other backs? In your opinion, who gets traded, and who gets released?

In the event we were in the position to get Ingram I think Choice has some trade value, maybe a 4th or 5th. Barber would have to get released. Then we roll with Ingram/Felix as our backfield and pick up an undrafted guy to have on the roster.

My only concern with trading down is not recouping enough picks, because there's alot of holes to be filled, and alot of talent to be had.

I agree: trade Choice, trade/release Barber, and go with Ingram/Felix as our backfield.

You dont take a RB in the 1st round unless he is Peteron or Chris Johnson caliber.

And you definitely dont take two RB's in the 1st round in 3 years.

Looks like we'll be regretting it. RB is no longer a premium position and this team has bigger holes else where.

Unfortunately we just recently wasted a 1st round pick at that position and I don't think we're ready to give up on him just yet. Hell I'm not so sure we've even gotten to him yet and we're still not waiting to up on Barber yet.

Really what Garrett is thinking in these concerns is anybodies guess. He could still see something unique in Barber. He could be just waiting to explode onto the scene with Felix as his guy. Or he could have even already given up on them both and something like this is in mind.

Personally, I only like picking Peterson ahead of Ingram. Sadly though I don't think we'll get either one.

NFL Network discussed Ingram last night. I'm just telling you what he stated and what the panel stated. However, it does align with my opinion of Ingram.

Charlie Casserly talked about Ingram in NFL terms and stated how Ingram wasn't a "special back" and "wasn't explosive outside". He called him a 5 to 10 yard, between the tackles back. Also, Cassserly went on to say that Ingram "isn't very elusive in the open field", something I have tried to tell all the people comparing him to Emmitt Smith. The panel went on to say that Ingram would play at 225 and be a pounding back. They talked about his durability being in question and whether or not he could be an every down back. They talked about his per game carry total being in the low teens at Alabama. They talked about him being a "complementary back" in a two back backfield and not playing on 3rd down early. They went on to say that he could slide to the mid to late 20s. I have read that Ingram could slide to round 2, but I don't know about that.

Ingram is a back that teams like Baltimore like, as realtick has stated.

To be clear, they agreed that Ingram is a good back but not special.

It wouldn't surprise me if Ingram slipped to round 2.

If Ingram was in the 2008 draft, he does not go in round 1 for sure. However, this is the 2011 draft.

This day in age when RB by Committee is almost a must and a star RB or four are discovered every draft you will never convince me passing on a RB is a mistake.

Yes, watching Ingram waste away his career making 2 yard gains behind our o line would be very exciting. For the sake of my tv we better not take ingram because if I hear his name called at our pick its getting thrown out the window

Exactly

Peterson. Tomlinson. Emmitt Smith. Barry Sanders. TAKE HIM.

If not, get a guy in the 4th, 5th round.

Or undrafted free agency...(Arian Foster....LeGarette Blount....ETC..ETC..)

True again.

Teams do not implore 25-30 carry backs anymore. Defensive players are to big and strong these days.

Running back by committee is the new way to go.

Get on board. No need to draft a RB in the 1st round

Won't happen ( most likely ), but it feels good to dream..

He's a luxury not a need. We have bigger holes at CB, safety, and offensive and defensive lines.

There are alot of don'ts in there, but here's a couple more:

You don't know what caliber of RB Ingram is going to be because most of us didn't know what caliber RB neither of those two guys you mention were going to be. I'll give you Peterson, to a certain extent, but not even he was a 100% guarantee ( " he ran too high " or so they said ).

You don't go into the draft with tunnel vision and officially eliminate any position, unless you have pro bowlers in their prime at that position or a franchise QB.

Indianpolis Colts 1st round draft picks
2006: Joseph Addai
2009: Donnald Brown

Carolina Panthers 1st round draft picks
2006: DeAngelo Williams
2008: Jonathan Stewart

Buffalo Bills 1st round draft picks
2007: Marshawn Lynch
2010: CJ Spiller

just in the modern era.

If researched before that ( old school ), there's plenty of examples, including your own Dallas Cowboys doing a back to back ( 1969: Calvin Hill, 1970: Duane Thomas ).
