News: Marshawn Kneeland Had Stage 1 CTE

I don’t think you needed to bring up “keyboard warrior.” If all you do is work on a computer at home, you’re probably safe. I’m talking about extreme sports and other activities beyond the 45 professional sports where concussions are common. I was referencing real experience, if you want to call us weekend warriors, fine, but there are plenty of sports with hard falls, which is why helmets are a must.

Whether it’s motocross, professional bike riding, flipping on bikes or skateboards, or even wakeboarding behind a boat at 75 feet going close to 23 miles an hour, the inertia alone makes crashes brutal enough to make you quit, unless you’re a weekend warrior or just really into these kinds of sports.

I’m wondering if it’s more about direct head impacts or the jostling around, like if someone traveled the world each year visiting every amusement park and riding the most extreme roller coasters with all those sudden starts, stops, and violent movements. I’m curious whether it’s just concussions that cause it or if there’s something deeper going on. Kind of like shaken baby syndrome—though I know it’s different, where severe shaking can be fatal.

It makes me think CTE could come from more than just playing football and getting concussions, maybe from any collisions or rapid deceleration where the brain gets shaken inside the skull.

I'm just saying I'm 56 years old and been playing some kind of sports most of my life, yes at my age I'm still doing flips and taking hard falls Whether you want to try to validate what I do or not I'd like you to come try other LOL

But I'm not sure I feel any effects of any abnormal feelings of depression or with each other whatever the side effects you get that might be telling signs I don't feel like that at my age I have it but you never know.
From what I understand concussions are the "visible" trauma and there are lesser degrees of trauma that can be bad as well. The questions is, is stacking 10-15 minor non-concussion traumas as bad as a handful of concussions. We hear numerous concussions (number varies) within a short window can cause a syndrome that makes recovery from each concussion longer. I agree there is no "defined" threshold for what is traumatic to the brain until you do something that requires seeing a doctor. Prime example from my own personal experience, I fell 10 feet off a scaffold and was cleared with no concussion, I hit the back of my head while looking for something in a closet, end up dizzy and vomiting an hour later and was diagnosed with a mild concussion.

It is unknown because unless asked to or the person donates their body to science when they die or other reasons to do a brain autopsy, brain autopsies are just not a thing when a person dies "unsuspiciously".
Which is what I thought. It could be 1 in 100k for all we know. What's the acceptable vaccine rate?

Damn good stuff going to the hospital after vomiting and not going to sleep.

Does it tick you off enough to motivate you to find a way to diagnose it while people are still alive? Unfortunately, there is no way for that to happen. It’s damage to the brain. It happens because of concussions. It’s as simple as that. We all are a part of not caring enough about what this sport does to boys, and men. We love the game enough for us to block it out. Very sad.
They’re working on diagnosing before death as we speak and are making good progress.

I haven’t read through all nine pages of this thread but is there a plan for the newborn child financially as well as child’s mother?

It’s heartbreaking this whole thing happened. I feel terrible the underlying issue was brain trauma.

Just pray for the child and the family.
One thing about Jerry is that you can count on him taking care Kneelands family.

Cowboys and the Joneses will take care of that child and mother.

Yes he had Stage 1 CTE, it is pure speculation if that is what led to his death. Could there be a link sure, but there could other underlying issues that we do not know about. Not to trying to start an argument about COVID and the baggage that brings but it was reported that a lot of hospitals listed COVID as causes of death even if the COD had a very weak link to COVID

BSContinues….when did I even IMPLY “only the NFL is responsible”? I said…they have a responsibility…which by your lazy language it seems you agree with. So…what was your actual point? A contest of wits?

Stay in your league, lane and level.
Chill brother. No need to get upset. It sounded like you were only blaming the nfl. My apologies for reading more into it.

Whose upset? Again, the need to assume and speak for others - all the while parsing their words - appears to be trolling. I mean either you’re that dumb or you’ve got too much time.

You spent that much time parsing my words…only to express your own thoughts? There’s a part of speech - a question - that would really help you out here.

1. It is not “pure speculation”. That would be what you are doing. Medical experts base their diagnosis on facts and data. Doesn’t mean they reached the right conclusion, but it is far from “pure speculation”.

2. “Other underlying issues” - that’s ALWAYS THE CASE. The question is whether this was a major, causal underlying issue…or just one of the many things that anyone is dealing with AND whether or not head collisions exacerbated or aggravated said issue. Otherwise, the standard is “one must be in perfect health to play football and avoid CTE…” and we know that’s not the case.

3. COVID? Seriously…just stop. If I am a military surgeon and I perform 70 surgeries in a year and it’s found that 3 surgeries may have contributed to the death…is the surgeon guilty of murder? NO. They came in sick, injured already!!!

We all love football…but facts are facts. You keep banging your head against something it’s not good long-term. Some people can tolerate it …others can’t.

So you know better than the person who ran the study quoted in the article. Good to know that we can go to you for this stuff.
I didn't say I "know." I said "assume."

It is perfectly reasonable to make assumptions based on existing studies lol.

You're looking for a gotcha, but it isn't there.

That's a very disturbing number. Nearly half of those who died before 30? But that's the risk players are willing to take to play contact sports. Until there is a way of diagnosing CTE or reducing the number of impactful contacts to the head this trend will likely continue.
I hope they can get a handle on this. This trending in the wrong direction. This will ruin a great sport. RIP Marshawn, you’ll be missec

Really so they know exactly what was going through his head at the time of his death. Do those doctors know for a fact his CTE is the reason he was depressed and led cops on high speed pursuit, and then killed himself. I said CTE may have been linked to his depression but it also may have nothing to do with his depression. Ok Great you are a surgeon and you would not make a claim but are you sure everyone every where is as stand up as you are. There are many headlines every where that will say other wise no matter the subject matter. When it comes to money from Federal, state, and local governments that really do not have over sight yeah corruption is real.

He’s an expert at everything. Just ask him.

I mean, which researchers? There's no way this guy went inside of a porta potty to kill himself. The porta potty is a place where you'd find evidence so contaminated you couldn't use any of it really.

CTE is real. But this was likely something different IMO.
Are you suggesting it was the Lizard people?

He was experiencing a mental health crisis. He wasn’t making rational decisions.

What part of my comment was wrong? You said PLAYERS not STAR players. The star players will always command more and they'll be paid first. But the piece of the pie will remain ~50% until they change it through the collective bargaining agreement.
Not to this level they didn't.

Quarterbacks didn't use to make 25% of the team salary cap.
