Martin or D-Law but not Both

The Cowboys will not have sufficient funds to afford off-season signings of both Martin and Lawrence.

These two guys will be the most prized players in all of free agency next offseason (read:crazy expensive). And teams only have one franchise tag at their disposal so Dallas can't use that for both players.

Martin is the league's best guard...DeMarcus is currently looking like one of the top pass rushers.

It's a tortured reality...a painful choice. Which do you value more...Zack's contribution to the maulers upfront on offense... or D-Law's WarDaddy role on Defense?

Martin is a no-brainer - and if Lawrence continue his good year, he will get paid by Jerry. The last of Tony's money is coming off the books and we are relatively healthy with the cap. This should not be a problem.

A franchise DE is worth more than a franchise OL (~$15.7 to ~$13.7). And that's with lumping OLs together where the OTs inflate that number.

But Martin is a better OG than Lawrence is a DE.

If it weren't for the back problems, I'd keep the ~18-20 sack DE over the RG, for sure. But we'll see how things end up for both players this year.

I think the Cowboys will likely keep both, regardless. At least for next year.

I expected a lot of denial by some posters and you didn't disappoint.

Ok...I'll grant you that maybe (doubtful, but maybe!) the Cowboys could conceivably afford both if the team did some cost savings at some other positions.

Dez is owed $16.5 mil next year. If we say goodbye...we take an $8 mil hit in dead money...but we still accrue an $8.5 mil savings.

So are you up for that to give you a possible chance for both?

It's not denial. It's reality. They can afford both.

They also don't have to cut Bryant to get it done.

I don't agree as I don't believe we can, but I'll play along.

I'm assuming you are hypothesizing that the Cowboys would try to sign Martin and then use the tag on DLaw?

Have you thought about how much it will cost to sign Martin with probably 20 teams will be interested?

Let's see if Tank can stay healthy. I hope so, it'd be a good problem to have. We do have more depth on DL. Cut Crawford and give his money to Tank.
