Probably has been discussed already but I just watched the 1971 America's Game and Sheen was the narrator. The whole time he kept calling Roger Staubach, Roger Starback.

You'd think they would have corrected him but instead they let him sound like a goof.

Ok. I feel better now. Kinda. :p:

Cajun doesn't even like people who play liberal politicians on TV.

Martin Sheet?

It's a long way from John Facenda or Harry Kalas to him.

What did they do? Try to come up with someone with the highest voice? Was Joe Theismann not available? Joe Pesci?

Yeah, that's bad too. :D But it was annoying listening to him mispronounce one of the main characters names of who he was covering.

Hmmm...interesting...I've watched that everytime it's been on, and I own it, and I don't recall ever hearing it sound like Starback.

I thought it was me when I first started watching it then my wife said, "Have I been saying it wrong and you never corrected me?"

I often hear it pronounced "Stau-bok."
Maybe I'm not understanding what pronunciation you're trying to give here, but I thought that's how it is pronounced.

Staw-back is how I've heard it pronounced before.

"bok" as in Johan Sebastian Bach

I thought "Stau-back" was the correct one.

Oh, I see what you're saying. I doubt there is a right answer. Wouldn't the "original" pronunciation be "bock" since it's German?

It's German and it's pronounced "bauck," or like the composer "Bach."

"Back" is wrong.

Maybe not wrong; just the Southern dialect. Like "eye-rack" vs. "E-rock." If enough people say it wrong it's right.

My mom calls tacos, "tacas."

I'm pretty sure that's the right pronunciation.

Then I guess that's why I hear it so often. ;) Pat Summerall always pronounced it that way.
