I just got done listening to DCFanatic and Hos, it was a tremendous show and a few things were said about Bennett by both Hos and coach that made me officially change my stance on the subject.

For those that didn't listen I will bullet a few points to help ease the transition

Bennett
- Romo can't rely on him to be where he is supposed to be..thus, without that trust the ball will not go his way
- Both Bennett and Phillips have had the wonderful opportunity to learn from arguably the best tight end in the NFL and Phillips has taken it and run with it (and vastly improved his game) and Bennett has taken it in one ear and let it go out the other ear

With all of this being said what is Bennett's real problem?

- lack of work ethic?
- immature/doesn't care?
- is he giving it his best and it just hasn't clicked yet
- other?

Whatever the case may be, the important question here is can ANYONE and I mean ANYONE name one player in the history of the NFL (and I am not saying you can't because I hope you can) that is similar to Martellus Bennett and eventually turned it around and reached their potential?

Now, I know there are going to be dozens of names flying around that people name that were talented that took a few years to click but that is NOT what I am looking for. Let's not compare Marty B to a Tony Romo or a Miles Austin who took a few years and finally turned into all pro players because that is not the situation that Marty B is in.

I am looking for someone who comes across as if they do not care / unwilling to put the work involved that requires to be great that eventually changed that mindset and got things turned around. My opinion is that the hardest bad habit to break is laziness and if indeed Marty B just isn't willing to do the work then I don't think that will ever change.

I am by no means saying that this is the problem with Marty B, I am strictly just asking because I have no idea what his problem is and I am hoping that maybe someone on here has a clue because I don't.

I am starting to think that it just might be time to give up and Marty B and let JP's star begin to shine

You don't become the caliber of blocker Bennett is by being lazy and you don't play in over 50% of the total plays on a top 5 offence by being a bum.

When did this laziness thing start name me one person in the organization who has ever even hinted at him being lazy.

Bennett had a tremendous camp and preseason in 2009. A few drops in real games affected him and he never got over it according to Garrett or Wade. I forget which coach it was that said it.

I am not suggesting that Marty B is lazy..I am asking if that is what his problem is..

Can we at least see how the guy plays when he gets back (supposedly tomorrow though limited) before diagnosing anything?

How in the world did he play so well in last years camp?

I have a strong feeling that Marty B is going to catch a few TD's this year and make an impact.

Yep, a psychic-type feeling. Save This Post!

Jerry Jones did.

Said something to the effect that Bennett could break out just like Jenkins and Spencer if he would "focus".

Since when is focus and lazy the same thing?

I can't really think of anyone. But I do think I know what the problem is.

I think Marty thinks he's better and more talented than Jason Witten.

Has anyone been in a situation where they started a job or something that you know you're good at, but there is already someone there that is already the favorite and can seem to do no wrong? I know that happened to me in high school in a couple different organizations, and I'm pretty sure I'm that guy in my workplace right now.

Marty probably thought he was going to be drafted by a team that needed TE help and he would be the guy. When he got to dallas, he probably realized he could never be that guy here. All he heard was Witten this and Witten that. He probably began to get some animosity towards Witten and wanted to prove that he can do it himself, his own way. Why else would this guy be hanging out with Shockey? Shockey is the anti Witten.

In fact, there's a new guy at my workplace that refuses to learn from me or take my advice, despite repeated orders from management to do so because he believes he already knows what he's doing from his previous job. He continues to make procedure and policy mistakes and has become buddy buddy with another agent that is most likely going to get fired within the next week. This is the same type of situation.

I think Jerry summed it up best...He just needs to focus.

For some reason, when he was first drafted, Bennett seemed more hyped about his own potential than the fans were.

He quickly took on a superstar persona and began having a lot of fun and acting like he already arrived. I think he simply forgot the part about having to prove himself first, and actually attain the superstar status on the field first. He started off acting as if his potential would blossom into success naturally...and never focused his energy and effort enough into making it happen.

That's about the best summary I can give; as to my opinion on why he has failed to be as productive as many of us would have hoped for thus far.

Uh yeah you kind of did.

Let me ask you this, what has Phillips done that Bennett has not?

Bennett had more catches and touchdowns as rookie and had more catches and yards last year.

I never seen 7 catches for 62 yards , from the Fullback position mean so much.

What? I didn't hear about that. That's disgusting if it's true.

Yeah. He tweeted something like, "hangin out with my boy shockey!" Or something like that.

Witten and Marty B are both gonna end up in Ohio. The above tells you who's going to Canton and who's going to Cincinnati.

I'm thinking pretty much the same. Marty B's I work 9-5 just like anyone else works their job hit me the wrong way last year. I am hoping he has finally realized he has to work a lot harder if he is going to remain on this team. Time will tell. Let's see what he does once he starts to practice again this year. I really do hope he has a new attitude because he has the raw talent to go far.

I say ship him out - I tired of readin an hearing about something else he has done distasteful

his heart is not in it

all you have to do is look at Witten

who has probably half the talent (potential) Marty B has

but Witten works at it and it shows

In his first year in 2008, Martellus Bennett caught 20 passes for 283 yards and four touchdowns. Not bad for a rookie TE who played behind one of the best in the league in Jason Witten.
Bennett's potential as a regular contributor on offense inspired Jason Garrett's favoring of the 2-TE set going into '09. Throughout training camp and the preseason, Bennett's apparent prowess confirmed that the Cowboys' offense was ready to consistently feature such a formation. All along, John Phillips, a TE drafted in the 6th-round, was steadily supporting the fact that he should not only make the final 53, but also be included in the regular season gameplan.
Last season, Bennett failed to surpass his rookie season's production by catching just 15 passes for 159 yards and zero scores. With the rookie, Phillips, catching 7 for 62 yards along with a TD in the playoff victory over Philadelphia, Bennett just may have some real competition for the spot behind Witten come this year's training camp.
Both Bennett and Phillips have shown the ability to mature into effective blockers from the TE position
