One of the most puzzling moves the Cowboys have made in recent years was trading Anthony Fasano to Miami in 08 for a 4th rd pick who they drafted in the 2nd rd just 2 years earlier. Akin Ayodele was also part of that deal. The Cowboys then proceeded to use another 2nd round pick on another TE MartyB that April. I liked Fasano when he was in Dallas and thought he had alot of potential. During his rookie year in 06 he made one of the key plays that season for the Cowboys making a very difficult catch down the field to covert a HUGE 3rd down late in the game against the 9-0 Colts. That was one of the plays that helped secure that victory. The explanation given by Jerry for the move was that Fasano was drafted to help block for Bledsoe in a two TE offense and once Romo took over it reduced Fasano's role. Jerry said they saw MartyB being better in the passing game than Fasano...Oooops! Here's a run down of what each player has done since that move in 08.

This comparison is so slanted it makes no sense.

Fasano's numbers are clearly going to be better because he's the starter in Miami. Bennett backs up Jason Witten. End of story.

You forgot to post the games started

Marty B = 0

Fasano = over 30

Marty B is a much better blocker. Outside of that its a wash pretty much.

Marty B has way more potential, that's why Jerry did it. We fall victim to the P word trap all the time. Marty B is one of the players I would make an example of at the end of this season. Gotta cut your losses.

He might have made a big play to beat the 9-0 Colts, but he failed to make a play to beat the Giants in the playoffs.

I'm glad we have MartyB. He is much more talented.

and taller and if the coaches could get him to be a red zone threat, hed be worth his draft status. Its either him or the coaches who wont get that combination to work. But 6'6 6'7 is hard to pass up on as a target.

To go along with all of the things people have already pointed out.. Miami has no where near the receivers the boys have. Brandon Marshall being the exception this year.

Fasano is clearly been given more opportunity to produce seeing he's a starter in Miami but what sense did it make trading him away when he could be doing the same as MartyB if not more? We dumped Fasano for a 4th rd pick and used another #2 for MartyB do you consider that move a success? John Phillips has looked better in the passing game than MartyB and he's had much fewer opportunities.

I still haven't given up on Marty B but at least we have John Phillips. Assuming he recovers 100% next season, he is great insurance to have.

Frankly I would not be averse to trading Marty B if we can get a 2nd for him. But that is kind of doubtful. I think Phillips would do fine for us. And if Witten is wearing down we can slot him right in there and not lose a whole lot.

And he's yet to show that potential and I'm sure Jerry is regretting the move because MartyB could be gone next season. He tossed a good hard working player away in Fasano who he gave up a #2 for and used ANOTHER #2 on a lazy player who acts like an idiot and hasn't produced as expected. The Dolphins clearly got the best end out of that deal.

What example are you going to make of him? Shouldnt a guy do something wrong before you make an example of him?

From everything I have read and seen Bennett has been doing everything that have asked of him this season and he has cut down on his penalties as well.

Fasano has proven he's good enough to start I'm not so sure MartyB could start for alot of teams. Reports were the Bengals wanted to trade for him and lucky for them they didn't because Jermaine Gresham who they took in the first rd last April looks like a beast compared to MartyB. He's already put up 42 catches for 330 yards and 3 TD's with a washed up Carson Palmer.

I can assure you Jerry didn't make that trade because he thought MartyB would be a better blocker than Fasano. LOL It was his potential as a receiver Jerry liked.

You have to let him go. I'm obviously not there every practice and what not but he is a lazy player. He doesn't make the most of opportunities he's given either. If he is not what we thought/wanted him to be why are we wasting out time? Phillips looks like he could slide right in if he recovers from his injury.

Supposedly Garrett (Jason or John) said he made way too many mental errors and they didn't think he'd ever get it.

I wonder if the Cowboys kept his old facemask, though... The one with the dent from that TD pass that clanked off it.

Eh. I don't mind having Marty B to be quite honest. I like him much more than I liked Anthony Fasano.

Dont know why anyone starts this stuff every other week.

Fasano starts (when they arnt trying to replace him, which has happened a couple of times) and Bennett doesnt.

When Bennett finally gets his chance somewhere 9either here or elsewhere) he'll easily dward whatever numbers Fasano has.

We seem to have trouble getting Miles and Dez the football half the time, how on earth is Marty suppose to get looks?
