It's more than that. Add in bad OL coaching and bad OL run schemes. If people hated that Big Mac always ran on 1st down, they're going to really hate Marty Ball. lol
Just having a HC who is committed to running the ball more is a big improvement. It won't be Martyball. He just believes more in running the ball more than Mccarthy which is exactly what this offense needs. More balance.
My problem was Big Mike calling passes down field on 3rd and 1 when you're not in field position to go for it on 4th and 1.If people hated that Big Mac always ran on 1st down, they're going to really hate Marty Ball. lol
Nah. It's just harder to overcome talent shortcomings consistently in the playoffs.Marty built winning teams. He was just notorious for playing far too conservatively in the playoffs. It’s like his whole game plan was different for the playoffs.
The Eagles won the Super Bowl based on running the ball and playing good defense.I noticed a lot of my fellow Zoners gleefully talking about how many of our problems will be solved because we have "Martyball" now. As someone who was around during "Martyball"it's interesting because back then Marty came to be known as basically a simpleton who was famous for soul crushing losses and who couldn't get over the top, e.g., he's the only coach in NFL history with 200 wins but a losing playoff record (and his playoff record STUNK). He was also on the losing end of iconic playoff losses, e.g., "The Drive", "The Fumble."
I'm curious what it is about Martyball that has people excited? Let me know Zoners.
The problem was, he always had good players at almost every position. Just few great ones. He had some nice teams though. Good enough that I remember.Recent opinions sometimes do not carry the weight of reality with them. Marty Schottenheimer was a greater NFL coach then anyone in this forum. He did the job and he did it very well. He may have failed to achieve the ultimate but that does not negate the winning history and the winning spirit he fostered in KC for more than a decade. He kept these guys in the national spotlight every season. He racked up the highest winning % of all Chief’s coaches until Santa Clause came to town.
Don’t disparage his legacy. He may not have been Belichick but he was damn good.
Does this translate thru the bloodline? Is it nature or nurture? Will we inherit the disciplinarian with a penchant for smashmouth ram it in their face football or something other. The major issue is that, whatever Brian is, he is under Jerry’s thumb which does not bode well for any HC.
He did bring them to their first AFC championship appearance. But prior to him, they did win two AFL championships, and an AFL VS NFL game prior to the league's merging. The period between stram and Schottenheimer (1975-1988) the chiefs had a winning record twice and made the playoffs once, losing in the WC game. So yeah they pretty much were non existent for a long time before Marty showed up
That was the worst way to get knocked out of the playoffs I've ever seen. Take a knee and the game is over. But the Patriots didn't win the SB that year.Nah. It's just harder to overcome talent shortcomings consistently in the playoffs.
If the idiot DB in SD would have played more "conservatively" when he made the interception, Brady and the Pats would have at least one less Superbowl, and Marty may have multiple SB wins.
Have you seen Jason Garrett ball? Same Ole shhhhI noticed a lot of my fellow Zoners gleefully talking about how many of our problems will be solved because we have "Martyball" now. My bad on the year. That was the worst way to get knocked out of the playoffs I've ever seen. Take a knee and the game is over. But the Patriots didn't win the SB that year.
I thought the same thing. I thought it was a game ending interception. Apparently not.My bad on the year.
Apparently my bad on the situation as well. I guess nearly half the 4th quarter was left to play, so it makes more sense that he didn't go down. NE still had time.
Both QBs were awful in that game.
Here come that guy--who doesn't recognize hyperboleThat couldn't be more wrong.
You mean voted in by the guys who put Fred Dean in that joint? Same clowns who won't put the great Roger Craig in that joint! No. If you are a great coach, you are in the HOF.
Are you nuts? Len Dawson? Hank Stram? Marty isn't fit to hand wash their jocks.

25 years of coaching and he finally gets a chance to be head coach. Schottenheimer is just happy to be here.We are a bunch of carnies . We need this to stop. Talent has been overrated here for a while. But the biggest issue is the excessive access to the team by outside forces during the season, post season. It lends itself to being ill prepared and focused. That's coaching. The hc can control this if he has the will to. MM was just happy to be here. A gutless wonder. Let's hope Marty's son can do the job needed.
We shall see. Aaron Glenn is about the same age, just got his first HC gig. What's the difference?25 years of coaching and he finally gets a chance to be head coach. Schottenheimer is just happy to be here.
