Notice I didn't put ... Marvel vs, D.C. Movies

I want input... can be pro or con about how they were done or who was cast that was great or not great etc.

For me:

SUPERMAN

Superman with Reeve in movies 1 and 2 are my fav to Superman thus far.
The 3rd movie bombed but you could argue that his acting was great ... playing two roles.

Casting: Perfect
Best movie: Superman 2 with 3 villains.

#####

BATMAN

Batman with Keaton. I'm a big fan of his but he is not the best batman to me.
I actually don't have a fav batman thus far. I do really like Affleck as older Wayne/Batman though.

Bale was ok. He didn't feel like batman.

Affleck seems to have a grip on him at this point.

Casting: All around adequate thus far.
Best movie: TDKR. I pick that one even though it wasn't perfect for me. The idea was best.

#####

Iron Man

As close to perfect as you can get for casting Tony Stark. Recasting should be interesting,
They might nail it even more.... if they want.

Casting: All around adequate thus far.
Best movie: Don't have one. Iron Man 3 - the previews pulled me in, "you won't see me coming"... then the toilet scene. Geez!

#####

Spider-Man

I guess so far I like Toby. No great shakes..

Casting: Toby. This new kid. It's wacky. It's off ... they messed with ages here. Aunt may.
Best movie: Spider-man 2 with Doc Oc.

Best scene ever in comics, to me, is the train stopping scene in Spider-Man 2. I think they agree because this 3rd spider man is doing something similar with a boat. Heh heh

I actually really like Ruffalo in the Avenger Movies. I think he's the best Hulk I've seen. Of course, the actual "Hulk" is special effects so yeah, that's kind of a weighted deal.

As an aside, I can't say I've really liked any of the Characters that have been cast as Superman. I guess I too like Reeves best there but I will say this, I am SOOOOO glad they didn't make one with Nicholas Cage. I think I would have hated that.

I myself can't wait to see Captain Marvel or now Shazam with DC. I grew up in southern California, and in the late 70s watched the tv show Shazam! The last episode was filmed right down the railroad tracks from my house. Watched them do some scenes, saw the van (which is a known fixure in the tv series), etc. One of the happiest moments for me as a kid.

I am pumped up to see the new movie, I think which comes out in 2019. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson plays main villian Black Adam.

Looks more like Nick Cage trying to play Glenn Danzig trying to play Superman.

On a side note...at one time there were rumors that Danzig was going to play wolverine...which would have fit more closely to the comics as Wolverine was shorter and muscular just as danzig is/was.

Agreed. He brings a balance, if you will. That the others didn't. The others were wound up as Banner.

I didn't believe what I was watching when I first saw the documentary of cage/superman.

You know I want your 411 on all things "superhero" :)

Yes and yes.
Two more staples from my childhood. Saturday morning/afternoon shows.

"Shaaaaaaazam!"

Someone thought so. Watch that dreck of an idea. Horrible.

Ant-Man

Paul Rudd’s matter-of-factly performance makes Scott Lang a bit stiff but it fits his usual role seen in his past movies.

Casting: Rudd is a good choice as Ant-Man. I’m not sure there wouldn’t be a better choice if his role is forced into more dramatic circumstances--which didn’t happen in Captain America: Civil War.

___________

Batman

Michael Keaton could have easily been the best Batman but was forced to fit a very good performance in Tim Burton’s customarily outlandish version of movie-making. Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne may be a bit better than the rest but his Dark Knight is slight course (except for his fight scene to free Martha). Christian Bale is the best combination of hero and billionaire. Zero comment concerning Val Kilmer and George Clooney.

Casting: Bale and Keaton were A+ choices.

Best Movie In Series: The Dark Knight. Bale, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart and Christopher Nolan fashioned a masterpiece of conceptual good versus evil.

___________

Blade

Wesley Snipes’ Daywalker is an awesome expression of duality. The anti-hero fighting his base nature is great… for the original movie at least. Snipes gets away from what made his character special in the first movie and Blade becomes increasingly a sideshow by the end of Blade:Trinity. The showdown between Blade and Dracula was still fantastic in Blade II

Casting: Wesley Snipes is a great choice for Daywalker but Kris Kristofferson was his equal in many ways in the original movie.

Best Movie In Series: Blade. FROST!!!!!!

More to come...

Marvel > DC and it ain't even close although recently DC has closed the gap just a tiny bit.

They need a bil box office return for a few of their upcoming movies (including Wonder Woman). Looks like Guardians vol 2 is gonna be over a bil soon for Marvel. And I expect Spider-Man: Homecoming to do around that (w Tony Stark/Iron Man in the movie), plus we get an upcoming Thor: Ragnarok (w the Hulk), Black Panther 2018, Avengers: Infinity War (2018). Those all look to be big hits.

Looks like that gap will be getting bigger.

DC is having a monumentally tough time with their project because it's a cash grab that's almost completely reactionary to the Marvel CU.

They were in a terrible position from the start because they essentially over exposed their two biggest franchise players: batman and superman. And then they absolutely squandered the Green Lantern opportunity.

Still, I think they could have done a much better job of getting the DCU going instead of the clumsy affair that has happened up until now.

And basically that's what I'll be using this thread for; Expressing how the DCU should have attacked moviegoers' attention spans.

Because I have a lot more opinions about this stuff than a 29 yr old man should.

Captain America

The ultimate leader of men (or superheroes), Captain America is the embodiment of patriotism. Never wavering and supremely dedicated, Captain America remains one of the best leaders that The Avengers ever had. The tradition continues in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

Casting: Whether he is playing a cosmic rays created fire mutant or a super soldier serum creation, Chris Evans knows how to properly bring comic book character to live action cinema.

Best Movie In Series: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

__________

Catwoman

Patience Phillips? Who the bleep is Patience Phillips?? Catwoman should’ve been a solid intro for Halle Berry into DC from her role as Storm in Marvel’s X-Men movies. Smart. Super sexy. She was aided with very good special effects highlighting her character's agility but that—along with a cheesy plot and weak material for Sharon Stone to play with as her arch foe—wasn't enough to give the movie a fighting chance at respectability.

Casting: Michelle Pfeiffer had a similar situation as Berry but was allowed to showcase much more dramatic depth for the true DC character, Selina Kyle. Even though she didn’t have her own standalone film, Pfeiffer is the best Catwoman to play on the big screen (so far).

__________

Daredevil

To me, Matt Murdoch didn’t seem like he was truly blind. Daredevil is one of the most acrobatic characters in all comics and one of the top hand-to-hand combatants but Ben Affleck does not convey those superhero aspects very well on-screen. Affleck didn’t do Murdoch’s character real justice.

Casting: This is a thread about movies. That’s a shame because Netflix and Charlie Cox do right by this character. No comment.

Upcoming: Deadpool, Doctor Strange and Elektra.
