Anybody get a look at that masked man who blew by McQuistan at the end of the game and knocked the ball loose. I'm not sure this guy is our next Flozell, he wiffed on that play, but we'll see. Is it just me are do you guys see some things that bother me. We still can't rush the passer other than Ware and o-line takes plays off. Terry Glen is so underated, we miss him guys, and while I'm at it, for those who think Newman isn't all that and more, he is, we flat out suck without him. I can't decide who's the bigger bust Spears or Carpenter, I thought this new scheme was going to make all these guys shine, yet neither seemed to get within miles of the qb..

Well, I do think you have a point in that scheme can't make up for lack of talent. I expect Spencer to develop into a nice player but I have little hope that he will be a force right out of the gate. Last year, Ware and Ellis, together were effective. When Ellis went down, so did our defense. This is not new news but many said that Ellis had nothing to do with it. I think he did. Right now, Ware is the only guy who can bring it any time. If Ellis can come back, thats' good. If not, I think we are still going to have problems getting a rush in place. I think Ellis will be back. I think Spencer will develop and Ware will be great. In the mean time, we might have to look more like a Parcells defense then a Phillips 34.

DE Hatcher was playing well until his injury. In his 2nd game back last night Hatcher was beginning to look like the player he was before he got hurt. Anybody think there's a good chance he beats at Spears sooner rather then later? I gotta tell you if Hatcher can bring some real pressure from DE position that will be a big help so long as Ellis can't play and maybe somewhat relieve the pressure of going with Spencer as our starting OLB.

Honestly I can't see us bringing much heat without Roy blitzing alot, and then we may get burned. You know this high risk defense either wins big or gives up big plays. We'll see..BB

Good grief. Please don't draw all these conclusions off the last two preseason games.

And on McQuistan, that was Brian Robison, who is an excellent athlete for his size and has made plays all preseason. He's going to beat a lot of starting tackles, not just backup ones. (And Bartel didn't help by not stepping up in the pocket on that play.)

But c'mon people... We aren't a perfect team, but there's a reason so many writers and analysts are picking us to make the playoffs. The sky isn't falling.

Your questions answered:

1. Yes, McQuistan is not looking like a probowl LT. Not sure if I let Flo just walk out the door next year (I am assuming his contract is up).

2. Ware is the only player right now than can bring pressure from anywhere strictly by himself.

3. Terry Glenn makes this offense special.

4. We have had a little taste of life without Newman and it isnt pretty. Whatever he wants, pay the man.

5. Spears is starting to worry me, he was doing jack against Minnys scrubs. Very disturbing for a high first rounder.

It's not just against Minny either. He has consitantly been blown off the ball all preseason. It seems like anytime we get gashed against the run, it's going right at him.

He does not inspire confidence at all. I just hope we see SOMETHING this year that keeps us from having to chalk him up as a bust.
