Who would be opposed to drafting him?
Here is his scouting report
Positives: Tall, naturally strong athlete with long arms, large hands, solid overall muscle tone … Shows good kinesthetic awareness thanks to above-average balance and has an athletic throwing motion with good instincts and field vision … The thing you see on film is his ability to adjust well to the game situations, taking what the defense has to offer to move the chains rather than try to go for the big play … Model citizen, great student and has that air of maturity, self-confidence and outgoing attitude than leaves little doubt why the Michigan coaching staff compared him to Tom Brady … Classic pocket passer with adequate foot speed, but shows good ease of movement driving back from center to his throwing point … Capable of executing screens and draws because of his mobility and ability to sidestep pressure … Knows how to keep the ball away from defenders and makes quick decisions when checking down … One of the best things he does is to see the entire field without forcing the ball … His over-the-top delivery motion generally allows the ball to come off his fingers to generate a tight circle … Keeps the ball chest high and it is rare to see him drop the ball below his hip … Can throw the flags and seams with good velocity and is very capable of hitting the 15-yard hitch on the sideline from the outside hash … Impressive ability to duck, step up and elude pressure, especially for a player of his size … Looks very comfortable hitting receivers just as they come out of their route and surveys the field to look off defenders and make decisive moves to get the ball to the open man … Nimble for a player his size and knows how to keep his shoulders square attacking the holes.
Negatives: Might not move out of the pocket as quick as the smaller passers, but he has enough leg drive to break tackles in attempts to get to the outside hashes … Never really got a chance to demonstrate his arm strength at Michigan (longest pass completion was 24 yards) … His short-to-intermediate tosses show very good velocity and touch, but he will need to show that he has the arm to deliver consistently into the deep area of the field, as some of his long throws can get too high when he puts too much air behind it (but he is simply a diamond in the rough that needs reps to erase any doubts teams might have in this area) … At Idaho State, he did a good job of smoking it into the cornerback/safety void, but is untested attacking the deep zones against top competition … Must become more consistent in anticipating the receiver's break, but is good at making check-downs when his primary targets are covered … Can make the short-to-intermediate throws on the move, but must set his feet better when airing it out long … Gains valid yardage with his feet past the line of scrimmage, but has only adequate speed, making him a non-factor on long runs.
Compares To: Tom Brady, New England Patriots … Like Brady and Notre Dame's Brady Quinn, Gutierrez has that quiet confidence in his ability to move the team … He is more mobile than Brady and has a stronger frame than Quinn, but all three are known for their field vision and patience, making them almost mistake-free.
