Idk if they both start looking good it could be interesting. I question there ability to cover and recover the deep third and halfs. Not saying there bad at it but just dont have Video in support. I'm not as worried about there tackling, but wilcox seems to be a more vocal player.

On the contrary, there's plenty of video of Matt Johnson doing it in college, but certain folks dismiss it as coming against inferior competition (nevermind there were quite a few D1-A schools on those highlight vids). His issue is staying healthy.

Wilcox? We'll see.

Broadus' article on dallascowboys.com had him talking about Wilcox. Idk how to quote it sorry.

I think they will play two different positions. Wilcox wants to hit with reckless abandon. If he catches on it will be at SS. Johnson can be a great shallow cover three safety if he stays healthy. He has the instincts and reaction time. It will be very interesting.

That's the way I see it too. I think Johnson is a FS and Wilcox is a SS all the way.

JJ is a masher. When he hits it's like a car wreck. Johnson is a pretty big hitter too, but he's more a center fielder type than Wilcox is.

I have high hopes for both of them. If I'm right about them, then Dallas' safety problems are over with.

Both of these players came from smaller schools and nothing is wrong with that. They have more to prove against better competition because they wasn't facing good players every week. There is nothing wrong with taking a chance on these type of players. There is something wrong with depending on either of them as a starter this season. They should be developing, not being counted on to start. They are small school, unproven players at this point of there careers.

i dont understand this thing with JJ being the hitter between the 2.

I watched both of their highlights and Matt Johnson was much more impressive and a much harder hitter than JJ.

wilcox ought to play on first downs and blitz...EVERY TIME.

If he gets to the QB he stays on the field.

If not...Matt comes in.

Simple as that folks.

Wilcox was as good as any safety that I can remember watching in the one-on-one coverage drills against WRs at the Senior Bowl practices.

If we are talking about high hopes, I think Goldson and Whitner, as a unit, are a good comparison. I think Johnson and Wilcox have similar skillsets to those two guys.

Reports have been good for all 3 safeties. Church, Johnson and Wilcox. Hopefully the question mark at safety will prove to be a positive.

Kiffin never shied away from rotating his guys.

I can see him bringing in another safety and rotating 5 guys depending on the down and distance.

hope it's a young guy in the mold of mcray or aoa...

Why would we ever want someone in the mold of McCray or AOA to be playing defense for us at any down and distance? I don't think pity for the other team and adding a liability would be a good defensive game plan.

I like McCary on ST, but there's no reason he should be on the field in defense if we can help it.

I am pulling for JJ Wilcox and Barry Church as the safeties for the Cowboys. I really like these 2 players. I think it would be awesome if Mo Church JJ Carr were the 4 starters that's a lot of good talent there. You have guys like Scan BW Johnson and Hamilton backing them up. That's pretty good depth IMO. I really like the talent on the back end of the defense. I can easily see them being top 10 this year with jus a decent pass rush. I don't think we've seen this much talent in the DB's in since the mid 90's IMO. With Smith Sanders Brown Woodson Marion and Washington etc...

Wilcox looked great covering in man compared to the other safeties in the Senior Bowl I thought. I may have been influenced by Brooks and Mayock gushing about him though.

I think Wilcox has the tools to be a great all around safety that can come up and be physical against the run as well as play with a lot of range in the back end.

The amazing thing about JJ is his lack of experience at S. He will just get better.
