Nothing bugs me more than the tale of Dustin Vaughan, playing in the sticks in near-West Texas who hung around for two years or so around here because he was of stature, good arm, not amazing numbers like you would have to have to hang around the Cowboys - not Romo-esque numbers at a small school but fairly lame numbers. .. We didn't sign a UDFA qb last season because Vaughan was, well whatever he was. Dustin Vaughan was the new Stephen McGee - a guy who looked the part.
I mean why is Wade Wilson even here? ..
Taylor Heinecke a UDFA last year was scoped out by Norv Turner and did so good that he hung onto the last spot on the 53-man there. I remember his nice accurate touch passes across the middle with against us last preseason 20-30 yards downfield with stout arm on the ball as was needed, I went ooh and ahh .. . It should be said though that all the Vikings backup QBs had a real high rating last preseason including the guy they cut in favor of Taylor Heinecke - but that might had been a case of Norv's scheme .. The guy cut wasn't picked up I don't think - sorry I can't find his name immediately bad inet stream ..
Matt Johnson is 5-11 so short and is a long shot, but has among the best touch on the deep ball, strong arm, that you will find in this draft I read - he had a couple of very good games against good competition - Purdue and another, can't remember (I had to turn off TV when Cole Hamels gave up 2 HRs - hey he had a 10 or so ERA until a few days ago, then said he had the flu or a virus plus allergies - you expect him to be perfect? ..
Johnson senior year: 383-569-8 int. .. 4946 yards .. 46 touchdowns. .that's better than Dustin Vaughan and in a better conference not playing Texas A&M Commerce that is ..
Can Matt Johnson the guy I tout - put the same touch on crossing patterns, out patterns with accuracy that he did at Bowling Green with guys just running go routes and screens that he puts so good touch on ???
Matt Johnson is the Taylor Heinecke of this year - numbers very close. Height- short also. Arm - Johnson better. Johnson was mostly passing screens and go-routes, so Heinecke had more experience in a pro offense I think, Heinecke more ability to find receivers across the middle etc.
Hey just hoping for a long shot, if you watch Johnson nice touch on long routes for sure he looks great - but then I think that was said of Matt Cassel always ..
