Today while i was listening to Cowboys Break, They made a great point concerning Matt Johnson. Is the guy even relevant right now? I know the team likes him, but have them even seen him in action? I dont recall if he was ever in any practices or what's his deal.

Yes, he did get in some practices. Garrett specifically said that they really liked what they saw in practice.

He is a guy that you bring to training camp and see what happens. You can't alter any plans based on him, IMO. They must have a legit 3rd option in case Church can't fully recover from the achilles injury.

I remember when people said the same things about Chad Henning. I bet they did about Roger too. I think it's stupid to write him off this soon.

If the Cowboys don't try and upgrade the safety position because of a 4th round pick from a small school who couldn't get on the field because he was injured all year long, then there's a serious problem.

Act like Matt Johnson isn't on the team, and if he pans out, it's an added bonus.

this would be smart.

Does anyone have examples of a DB returning to action the following year after an achilles tear? Can we realistically expect Church to be effective in 2013?

Overall this could be our weakest position on the roster...

I'd be ecstatic with FS Byrd in free agency or Eric Reid/T.J. McDonald in the 2nd.

He'll have the opportunity to be just as much on the radar as 2013 draft picks, it should be assumed, if not a bit more.

He'll have time to compete for snaps if he's healthy.

I agree with the notion of act like he's not on the team. This is a seriously Deep draft at Safety. Id have him platoon with Church and go after one of the ballhawking S'. The great thing about Church is the guys contract is great. If he starts he's great value and if he's a situational S playing in packages then his value is on par with his contract.

I'd pretend that Sensabaugh and/or Church aren't on the team, either.

This safety group coming out in this 2013 draft looks like a solid group & I might be inclined to use that 2nd round pick on one of the guys who fall after Vacarro & Reid.. Elam may be that 3rd safety, & even he could go late 1st if he lights it up at the combine and workouts

So does the football when it's being thrown by opposing QB's.

I remember Kevin Smith becoming a pass interference call waiting to happen after returning from an achilles injury.

I would pretend that we have no Offensive lineman on the roster too.

I love all these useless responses. "Lets pretend he doesn't exist".

OK So what are all advocating? We use our 1st rd pick on a safety or FA $ we don't have?

So what was the "great point"?

Don't forget we have McCray, who gained a lot of experience this year!:laugh2: :laugh1:
