Titans offer contract to WR Matt Jones 2/11/2010 7:49:00 PM
Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean reports the Titans have offered a contract to former Jaguars receiver Matt Jones and are awaiting his decision, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Jones, a former first round pick of the Jaguars, is also considering the Bengals after visiting with team officials this week.
Jones worked out for the Titans last September but was not signed, although the team remained interested.
A first round pick by Jacksonville in 2005, Jones caught 65 passes for 761 yards with the Jaguars in ‘08, but did not play during the ‘09 season. In four NFL seasons he has 166 catches for 2,153 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The 6-foot-6 Jones is an intriguing prospect, though he has controversial past.
He was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance in July ‘08, and later jailed for a week for violating terms of his plea deal. Cocaine possession charges were later dropped after he completed a drug program.
The NFL suspended Jones for three games in ‘08 for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
