Titans offer contract to WR Matt Jones 2/11/2010 7:49:00 PM

Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean reports the Titans have offered a contract to former Jaguars receiver Matt Jones and are awaiting his decision, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Jones, a former first round pick of the Jaguars, is also considering the Bengals after visiting with team officials this week.

Jones worked out for the Titans last September but was not signed, although the team remained interested.

A first round pick by Jacksonville in 2005, Jones caught 65 passes for 761 yards with the Jaguars in ‘08, but did not play during the ‘09 season. In four NFL seasons he has 166 catches for 2,153 yards and 15 touchdowns.

The 6-foot-6 Jones is an intriguing prospect, though he has controversial past.

He was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance in July ‘08, and later jailed for a week for violating terms of his plea deal. Cocaine possession charges were later dropped after he completed a drug program.

The NFL suspended Jones for three games in ‘08 for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Nashville, TN is a big time thoroughfare for plenty of cocaine. He'll be fine.

Baddum-tshh.

People on here used to get so pissed when others on this board just wanted to give Austin an opportunity.

im not saying im one of those people, but come on, did anyone think he would do that against denver, and hes from my alma mater. Lets get real here people, some of us were hoping he'd make the team and anything after that impressing us.

Believe me if we took a WR in rounds 1 or 2 im telling you know i would have wanted him started before Miles.

Many still get pissed when others suggest Doug Free and Kevin Ogletree be given an opportunity.

Some people just don't deal well with change - this is often the case with those of limited intellect.

Come on. There were plenty of us who took it seriously when his QB said he thought Miles had all-star potential before *last* season.

you are right, hey had Miles had a bad season, could he say it was bad quarterbacking that held him back?

Boy if the Bengals sign Pacman too (who they are working out) it could be a double helping of Joneses.

Maybe/maybe not.

Matt Jones should have came cheap enough so money can't be an issue.

Well given that they could likely be down 2 WRs, if they don't want Coles back, then there is possibly still room for TO there as well.
