Panthers | Matt Moore not expected to return
Sun, 22 May 2011 12:13:24 -0700

The Carolina Panthers are not expected to re-sign impending free-agent QB Matt Moore after the lockout is over.

right there is McGees replacememnt

then KItna's replacement in 2012

our backup

I'd would look at the kid

Panther fan here... Matt Moore imo is definitely worth picking up. He was put on IR last year, he would have been our starter. John Fox was never a fan of his play for some reason. But after Jake Delhomme fell off the planet, Moore started the last 4 games of the 2009 season and had the best completion percentage and best touchdown to interception ratio in the league.

He's a baller, and I for one was completely for drafting a DT in the draft and going into the season with Moore under center for the 2011 season

Yes. He had his shot in Carolina. He failed.

Yes. Let's pick him up because he was great for us in preseason a million years ago.

If ever there was a case of premature rueing, it is Matt Moore.

Seriously dude, you have to actually follow what the players have done post Cowboy before posting.

Did you just say he had his shot in Carolina, and failed? I don't think any QB has any shot in Carolina with the team they have there. Matt Moore> Stephen McGee. Disregarding finances, I would like to have Matt Moore on this team over McGee

Claimed off waivers by Carolina (9/2/07)...Waived by Dallas (9/1/07)... Signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by Dallas (5/14/07).

I much rather have Moore than McGEE

Lol are panthers fans that bored that they cone to our boards n suggest FA pickups for us? Hahaha

No need for Moore. He's a little short of starting material and we already have a competent backup. Can't afford both Moore and Kitna, so signing Moore would have to mean Kitna is gone more than McGee.

we have seen his body of work and he sucks. why bring back somebody who we know is going to suck and will never have a chance to start or do anything special!!!

geez people. if carolina is letting him go, a 1-15 team, who drafted a QB two years in row. that should tell you something.

Doesn't it simply say Carolina simply has 2 high draft picks tied up in QBs and have to give them every opportunity to succeed?

I know Dallas didn't want to let Moore go in the first place, so maybe they've seen enough of McGee to warrant bringing Moore back. Garrett has already said they'll bring a 4th QB to camp. Maybe they get Moore instead of an UDFA and see what happens. To me, it makes more sense than just getting a "camp body".

But why did the Panthers feel the need to go get 2 QB's if they already felt good about Moore?

Moore is a veteran and a former starter, and he is neither in the same price range as McGee or the same stage of develoment where the upside is still undetermined. For Moore to be brought in now would be as a backup in Kitna's role, not a a development guy like McGee. The only benefit I see to that is a younger backup that can be around longer than Kitna, but short term Kitna is probably the better player.

Chance to start? We're looking for replacements for our 2nd and 3rd string QBs...

If you brought in Moore and it came to a choice between Kitna and McGee, why would you keep Kitna? They guy is almost 40, and while he had his moments, they will be few and far between going forward.

I would entertain the idea of bringing him to camp and see what he has. Kitna has a year or so left, so if Moore can show that he has some fire and mobility sign him and release kitna or mcgee

Like I said above, you don't keep Moore and Kitna both because they fill the same role with the tea. I think some are still thinking of Moore as a developmental guy the way he would have been when we had him in training camp a few years back, but that's not where he is now. His role is pretty well defined now - a NFL backup who is capable of winning some games if he steps in, but is not a starting caliber guy that you want starting over the long haul. Accordingly, to bring him in would be to replace Kitna's role rather than McGee's, which is still yet to be fully defined.

How do you know that. Can any good QB succeed when you have the worst team in the league surrounding you. How would Tony fare with a team like Carolina. You would probably be making the same judgements about him now.... How did Kitna do before he got to play with a decent offensive team like the Cowboys...

You can't automatically assume that just because a QB failed with a loser of a team that he can't be highly successful with a different scheme and team.

Shortsighted...

I'm for bringing in two or three guys...Let em' all compete and then keep the best. That's Competition...That's All...
