The 2013 quarterback class is itching for someone to emerge behind Geno Smith. We’ve yet to see Matt Barkley throw following shoulder issues and the remainder of the second tier quarterbacks are as flawed as the top of the class.

It’s prime for a jump by someone in that third tier to make a jump up draft boards. Earlier today we highlighted EJ Manuel of Florida State as a guy that could jump the second tier and imprint his mark on the late first round. It appears as if another quarterback has emerged into that second tier fold.

Scott showed off his athletic abilities at February’s Scouting Combine and continued his momentum with a strong showing at his pro day. Scott showed up at the Combine at 213 pounds after reports that he may be shy of 200 pounds. Then went out and ran 4.69 in the 40. In a class that has largely failed to gain traction, Scott appears to be heading north as others remain stagnant.

Pauline reported that the Jaguars could be highly interested in Scott’s services at quarterback in a pre-Combine report but adds another team to the mix today.

It appears Chip Kelly and #Philadelphia @Eagles are team currently with most serious interest in Matt Scott's services. #ArizonaWildcats.
Followed by Arizona Diamondbacks and 1 other

Only 1 year as a starter and was pretty mediocre in that 1 year....don't see how any team could draft him anywhere before the 4th.

Arizona

Matt Scott of Arizona was another quarterback who stood out during his pro-day workout on Thursday.

The strong armed signal caller delivered upwards of 85 passes and all but seven ended up complete. Three of his throws were dropped while a few were over thrown by Scott. Initially he was slated to throw 93 passes but when receiver Dan Buckner injured his hamstring during the forty and was unable to run routes, Scott scaled back from the original plan.

Everyone we spoke to mentioned how athletic and accurate Scott was all day. He accommodated both the NFL coaches on hand as well as a few former Arizona receivers who participated in the workout with the hopes of getting another shot in the league.

Scouts we spoke with also mentioned how personable Scott was and how he comes across as a leader and quality person. The inevitable comparisons to Russell Wilson are already being made, though on film we see a bit of Colin Kaepernick in his game.

The thought process during the workout was Scott had moved himself into the third round, something we posted earlier today. When the day was done a number of coaches were of the opinion Scott could actually sneak into the late part of round two.

Some team will over draft him because he could fit into an option read system.

Funny how quickly perceptions change. Remember when the Dolphins were a laughing stock for taking Pat White in the late 2nd round? What was that, four whole years ago? He'd probably go late 1st this year, and the team drafting him would be considered a genius and ahead of their time.

I'm not really of the crowd looking to replace Romo, and I don't think QB is a need, but with his physical tools, I think I'd consider him in the 4th.

Scott drawing comparisons to Russell Wilson
Arizona QB Matt Scott is drawing "inevitable comparisons" to Russell Wilson, according to draft insider Tony Pauline.
Pauline notes that he actually sees more of Colin Kaepernick in Scott's game. "Scouts we spoke with also mentioned how personable Scott was and how he comes across as a leader and quality person," writes Pauline. "The thought process during the workout was Scott had moved himself into the third round... When the day was done a number of coaches were of the opinion Scott could actually sneak into the late part of round two."
