Did anyone else see that hit? It was called roughing the passer but looked like a clean hit to me. I understand they want to protect these QBs but dang it’s getting where you can’t breathe on them.

They should be ashamed. Absolutely terrible penalty. It's getting to the point you can't hit the QB in the pocket at all without holing your breath for a flag.

Memo seen on Goodell's desk:

"Idea.......just floating this out there.............. put a belt around the QB's waist and hang some strips of ribbon on it. We'll call them "flags". If the defender can pull the flag off the belt while the football is in the QB's possession, its a sack. "

Ben Watson a TE think he plays for NO wrote a piece saying they should put flags on the QB or make it two hand touch.

I think it is more a bad rule than a bad call. Seemed to meet the criteria of this new rule, which I don't think is a good one.

It wasn't really meant for that kind of tackle. He didn't purposely drop all of his weight on the QB. They can make any rule they want, enforcing them properly is typically the problem.

Ironic that the new "Aaron Rodgers rule" is the genesis of many/most of roughing the pass calls and that it cost the Packers a win.

The Packers had other chances to win that game. That one call did not cost them the W. If you guys want to see a horrible no-call, take a look at the play where Cousins threaded the needle on the tying TD. Cousins was hit below the knees after he threw the ball and no call. It didn't really make a difference (luckily he wasn't injured) but had the Packers intercepted that ball.....Romo got hit below the knees in our playoff loss there too. Again, no call, but they flagged us for hitting Rodgers below the knees earlier in that game. Even the announcers mentioned it at the time. I think Rodgers is an awesome QB, but I can't stand the guy...For those of you who don't believe in conspiracy theories, put a star on Rodgers helmet and lets see if he gets as many calls...

It's being reported that it wasn't because of the new rule, but because it was a "scoop and lift" which apparently has been on the books for awhile. They were reporting on the NFL Network that the NFL is making a training video using this play and why it was a penalty.

Well, neither the Packers nor Patriots fans can complain. Their Diva QB's created the rules. Also, I'm happy it was called against Clay Matthews...that dude cheap-shots QBs routinely without a flag. Karma finally caught up with him and his team.

I didn't see that one, but the one on Cousins I see nothing wrong with. What did he do wrong? He put his arm down too, preventing his weight from falling on top. I didn't see any lift up motion. Is it illegal to hit a QB in the pocket that hard? Because a QB will be taken off their feet every time if the defender hits him at speed. He'd have to stop first to prevent it.

And Mathews got called for it last week, but yesterday was a misapplication of the rule. Showing videos of legit cheap shots just proves the point that the rules needed to be amended.

They have got to make that roughing QB penalty reviewable. It’s effecting the game way too much.
