Of all the big runs this one bothered me the most. They ignored Bennett completely who rushed to the outside and had a single OL on Collins, Covington and Quinn/Hyder (can't tell who that is at DE). All three of our DL easily lost their battle. This allowed 2 OL to get to the linebackers untouched.

Looking at those two OL running with a full head of steam at our LBers is all you need to know on this play. Once he's past Covington he's pretty much running free for 10 yards until LVE runs him down from behind. Our pursuit linebackers aren't built to take on those OL head on and make the tackle.

what this image didn't show was how incredibly slow LVE was to react to the run, hit the gap and cut off the RB. Sean Lee did right, look how far back Smith and LVE are to the LoS compared to Lee. Lee's engaged within 2 yards, Smith and LVE are 4+ yards back. Smith leaves meat on the bone half the time, but LVE decided to just never eat. Not only is LVE sitting back he still got outran as the dude went right by him.

100% agree. Our LBers are playing off the ball way too far and reacting way too late. The end result is 300lb OL coming at them with momentum. I've seen a different LVE since the Rams game. I think he was fooled so often in that game that he is now overthinking and taking too long to commit to the run play.

Idk without full video but it looks like Woods/Covington (I can't tell) was in the right gap and missed the tackle, but there's nothing else for the DL to be doing there. Bennett is outside contain trailing, and Collins is working back and horizontal, which is a staple of Marinelli's defense. Quinn could probably be a bit more stout at the POA.

But both the LBs and Heath are out of position and none of the 3 are in the right gap. The LBs are just not even close.

Jaylon should have already shown color on 78's left shoulder
LVE should be in the opposite gap, inside 82. His inexperience is really showing here, because no NFL LB should be THIS FAR from the correct gap. I mean, he's off by like 4 yards and only starts 6 yards away.
Heath should be on the left shoulder of 65, but at least he's stacking.

It's fine to be concerned that the DL doesn't eat enough run blockers - fair. But it is ridiculous to absolve just horrible, undisciplined LB play. Even if the blockers get to the 2nd level, LBers need to play half a man and clog things up. If you just do that, on this play, it gets bottled up after about 4 yards.

We have too many Ferrari's on the line. Those goofs overrun everything every single time.

What are they overrunning here?

It is a penetrating defense. If you ask them to just defend the run, they do what the Vikings did all game yesterday and will generate absolutely 0 pass rush.

Since when did they defend the run?

I waited so long for them to start, that I took a nap, woke up, and they were still getting run on, followed by another one of those lovely screens that was quite the trend in all four quarters.

The only ones getting penetrated were the cowboys:facepalm:

?

The Cowboys DL penetrates, by design it's going to overpursue. The Vikings chose not to penetrate at all. The end product is no pass rush. If Cousins had time to throw, the complaint would be just the opposite, but it's a product of scheme.

Let's just chalk this one up as lack of adjustments.

The excuse train is in full motion.

It is lack of adjustments.

It is also a complete lack of understanding that there is no DL in the NFL who does what Cowboys fans ask of the DL.

At 8:45 mark.

Well last time I checked we root for one team.

As far as us telling dlinemen what to do....better the fans than the coaches.

Cowboys back up defensive linemen Armstrong, Hyder and Covington played a combined 67 snaps and had a combined 1 tackle between the three of them. I know the starters need a breather once and a while but 67 snaps seems to be an awful lot when your not getting any production out of them. When your getting paid millions of dollars to be a starter you should be on the field 90% of the snaps.
