Maurice Jones-Drew agreed Wednesday to a four-year extension that will make him one of the three highest-paid running backs in football.

According to a source, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Jones-Drew have agreed on a deal worth more than $8.2 million a year.

The four-year extension, which according to a source will pay him more than $32 million, will be announced at a news conference Wednesday afternoon in Jacksonville.

The contract is believed to top the six-year, $49.1 million deal signed by Clinton Portis of the Commanders in 2006. Steven Jackson of the Rams is the highest-paid running back. He signed a five-year, $48.5 million deal last season. Larry Johnson of the Chiefs is next. He has a five-year, $43.14 million contract. Jones-Drew was entering the final year of his contract and was scheduled to make $535,000.

With the release of Fred Taylor, Jones-Drew, who has averaged 4.8 yards a carry during his career, becomes the team's feature back. He had 941 yards as a rookie and last season gained 824 yards on 197 carries and rushed for 12 touchdowns.

Jones-Drew has 34 touchdowns during his three-year career.

With no receivers, they probably plan on getting their money's worth by switching to the wishbone.

Mojo isn't a top 5 RB..he's a little bowling ball that get's goal line carries. He isn't a feature back by any means.

By any means? You'd think the season was over already.

Prediction: Mojo will have more rushing/receving yards than MB3 this season. I like him him in Fantasy Land :) But I'm not so sure he's a top 5 back.

I felt sorry for Garrard last year w/ the demolished line and weak receiving core. He needs help badly.

Just imagine what kind of money MB3 would get if he hit the open market.

That's not a stretch saying Mojo may have more yards than MB3, b/c I'm assuming/hoping that Felix and TC have a role too.

I loved that play! I remember when I saw it I just about jumped out of my seat. He totally blew up Merriman, steroids and all!

MJD is an outstanding football player. He may not be as skilled or have all the physical attributes you look for in a RB but the guy is a football player. He's tough, plays hard, has a great attitude, and he produces. Considering what some other players get in this league, I'm not going to begrudge a guy like MJD that money, he's earned it!

After the way he played most of last yr, honestly nowhere near what we paid him before the season. Let alone more.

We all love the guy, but he was a disappointment last yr. He was Julius Jones with a bunch of fumbles last yr. That wasnt what we paid him big bucks for.

Oh please, he was hurt most of the year and we all know it. Everyone remembers his toe and forgets his early chest injury. You might want to give a guy with a 7 year contract more than one year to show what he can do as a feature back.

Just saying he was a disappointment last yr, especially considering the dough he got.

He had some good moments too, but wasnt the allpro calibar RB everyone said he'd be either.

Geez, that's a lot for a part-time back.

If he were just a RB then I would agree but he has gained just over 6000 all-purpose yards and 40 TDs in his 3 seasons. Any guy who can gain 2000 yards and 13.3 TDs every year is worth a lot to me. Plus he blew up Shawn Merriman! That's got to be worth a couple mil right there. :D
