I've seen Doomsday Preppers, and they are all crazy. When you think end of the world, you think the world exploding. Most of these idiots are in fear of stupid things.

The funniest one, was the NY fireman, who was getting ready for the Yellowstone volcano.

Too many people watching 'The Road'.

for those who won't click the link they have found mayan calenders that go on for 2.5 million days, or about 7000 years.

anybody who believes that an ancient civilization could accurately predict the end of the world is a ****ing moron and they would do us all a favor offing themselves prior to the supposed end of the world so they don't procreate.

Strange the same time the Mayan calender came to an end was the same year they found a new use for the Coca leaf. :lmao:

Not to mention that they didn't account for leap year and sure didn't see the Spanish coming.

The leap year part doesn't matter. You only need simple arithmetic to convert it to our current calender system and determine the so called last day of the world.

Minus the fact that the Mayan calender without leap year is missing a day every four years because it wasn't accurate. Over the course of their civilization, from the point at which the calendar was produced at least, the extra day might not have been noticeable but those days add up significantly over time when extrapolating out a few hundred years. March eventually ends up being in the previous year's November.

But all of that is inconsequential to this supposed prediction. If you say the world is going to end in 100,000 days it doesn't matter if your yearly calender accounts for leap year or not. A 100,000 days is 100,000 days. Their yearly calender could be comprised of 300 days, 400 days or whatever. It doesn't matter on the yearly scale as long as you count the days correctly.

Not that I care about the end of days prediction. The Mayans did have a good grasp of astronomy. They could see the patterns and understand when things would repeat such as comets or positions of planets. You only need to count days.

except that counting days is not how they got the end date date of the calender.

meh I'm not interested enough to find anything else

It doesn't matter. We could be talking about a Mayan prediction of a comet reappearing as opposed to the so called end of the world. They pick a date based on their way of tracking time. It is up to who is converting the dates to include leap year in the conversion calculations. If one doesn't to do that, then you could end up saying things are supposed to happen in December instead of March. That isn't the Mayans fault. That is whoever incorrectly made the conversion. And now we all missed seeing the comet. :D

The Mayans did know that a year was not precisely 365 days long. They just did not adjust their calender to reflect it. Or more accurately, their calenders. They had a few different calenders for tracking years.

My question, why did Mayans need a calender in the first place? It's not like they were needing to catch a flight or remember some Doctors appt.

Men were men back then as well. They needed to know what time of month to take that long hunting/fishing trip.

Part of that movie was filmed at my brother's house.

no kidding? Which part? Don't tell me it was the basement scene. I'd sell the house after that...
