Maybe The Defense Is Better Without Law and Parsons?

I know it's a tiny sample size, but maybe the defense is better, or at least not worse, without the star book-ends.

Maybe they play with more discipline.

Maybe these other guys playing for their NFL lives have more hunger and fight in them.

And just maybe this defense is more coachable without the stars taking up too much mental space.

I know it's a crazy thought, and I know Fields left some "meat on the bone" yesterday (he missed a few throws to open receivers)...but the defense just looked more solid yesterday, with Overshown flying around and being more of the leader with Micah and D Law out. I like it. Let's see if they can play well next week too.

I wouldn't go that far. This was a pretty bad offense we played last night. I don't think they will look *** good against the Lions next week. It reminds of the cooper Rush win streak a few years back. Then we won despite the QB play yet some believed it was because of.

Yeah, I would not get too high on our defense yet, defenses have a way of looking a lot better when playing offense challenged teams, just think back to the Browns game. Based on that game our D was going to take the league by storm.

They did what that had to do last night for the win, but talk to me after the Lions game.

The positive is that while Parsons and Lawrence are out, Zimmer will have to rely more on the things that made him successful as a coordinator and the players will have to lean more into getting it right. We need to remember that we're only five games into a scheme change. It takes time for players to get to the point where they are not overthinking what they are supposed to do.

Even though this defensive effort came against a subpar offensive team, it was a good sign that without our stars, the defense could step up and play the scheme the way it's meant to be played. I don't think that means we're better off without Parsons and Lawrence, not by any means, but maybe it gives Zimmer a chance to get other players to step up into roles so that we're better as a defense when they return.

They played against New York as well who looked good against Seattle

Parsons & DLaw played against NY as well as Kneeland . To suggest the Cowboys are better off without them I don’t even know what to say except Zimmer & MM would love to have them all back .

Speaking of which how are Guyton & Kneeland injuries . Can they play against Detroit ?

Parsons and DLaw are undisputed and look for stats. Esp Parsons

Defense is not about flash, it is about discipline, gap control, tackling

Parsons is the main culprit along with Diggs

Yet everyone, including yourself, picked the Steelers to win. And yes, the Cowboys won the game because of Dak, the rest of the offense, the defense and special teams. Sorry it doesn’t fit your hate agenda. Not.

This is Zimmer’s thing: He can take poor defensive talent and field a mediocre unit. It won’t get turnovers. It won’t get sacks. It won’t get stops in the last two minutes. It won’t change momentum. But it will hold down scoring and make the game ugly.

Unfortunately, if you give Zimmer good defensive talent, he’ll field a mediocre unit.

I think some of that is on Zimmer trying to adapt his scheme to feature Parsons. When you have a pass rusher like him, you gear things toward creating opportunities for him. Offenses know Parsons is going to rush the passer, whether he's at end, linebacker or wherever. A big part of Zimmer's pressure package is offenses not knowing where the pressure is going to come from. Is a linebacker going to blitz the gap? Are the linebackers going to drop into coverage and pressure come from the safety or nickel corner? Zimmer's given up some of that guesswork because he has Parsons. We need to see if we can make this scheme work without Parsons and then work him back in in a way that allows him to do what he does best without disrupting the scheme. If pressure can come from anywhere, that can even make Parsons more effective than offenses knowing they have to do whatever it takes to stop him and that takes care of our pressure.
