Mayfield feels disrespected

I appreciate the respect & I respect your opinion as well.

My pushback is forget career and look at what he's done in Tampa. 2024 Career Year: Threw for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns, and a 71.4% completion percentage under coordinator Liam Coen, breaking Tom Brady’s single-season franchise TD record. [1]

So, he put up yardage that ties with all but one of Dak's seasons high & put up more TD's than Dak has ever had. In short, he has proven that when given a legit team around him he can produce at a very high level. Even with team falling apart around him, he's still kept them competitive.

I simply have no faith in Dak in the big moments. I'd at least have hope with someone else.

Again, I got alot of respect for you but there is no legit justification for trading Dak for Baker Mayfield in my opinion. I can't ignore production and abilities.

You do make a few valid points, however..... but we have to agree to disagree on this one.

(Quick Public Announcement) I was told that I insult anybody that disagrees with me or my opinions. My apologies in advance, I just had to take out a minute to kill and bury false narratives once again, about people who disagree with me being insulted.

name them, and build the case then? who do we pretend dak's better than, that would come in and do better than him?
I don't understand the challenge to name them. Same group of guys who aren't part of the elite but you can mix up in a lot of different orders when ranking because there is a lot of similarities. How bout these 6? A nice mix. I have zero doubt any of these couldn't produce the same or better than.

Goff
Darnold
Mayfield
Purdy
Herbert
Nix

We have listened to each other and if we still don't see it the same, that is completely fair. All good with me!!

Then he should be happy. Teams were not straining at the leash to sign Mayfield when he was available. Tampa Bay made him an offer and he signed it. So, it is “his problem that he seems to be caught in the wrong time with a team that is looking to clean house next year”.

His career numbers are similar to Carson Wentz’s career numbers. Wentz is a $3 million QB3 with a one year deal. Mayfield is a $33 million QB1 with an opportunity to showcase his skills. If he wants to join the overpaid NFL quarterback club with $50 million AAV he need only improve his resume to warrant it.
I think you are co-mingling a few things though. The previous contract isn't really the issue. When he signed that deal, he had been put in a situation where he didn't have a lot of options. It was clear that he was betting on himself to prove himself a legit starter. He has done his part. The league was wrong about him, just like they were wrong about Darnold & Purdy, etc..

There is a baseline for a starting QB salary then it progresses upwards. The very bottom of the baseline (given current salaries) for a player expected to play the full season as QB1 for a team is probaly in the $35M range. He certainly isn't at the baseline level. So we can haggle over exactly where he belongs but when you look at some of the QB's making over $50M, I can't see any reason why he shouldn't be in that ball park. Explain to me why he should make $5M, $10M, $15M less per year on his next contract?

Can you win a SB with Mayfield?
sure if you can win one with Trent Dilfer you can win with basically any warm body

now THAT took a GREAT DEFENSE

right now there is maybe one, perhaps two that could possibly become that good. None right now.

So you need a QB that can do a fair amount and yes Mayfield can do that
BUT can he do it consistently ENOUGH?
THAT is questionable.

Mayfield has great stats.

Bucs are trying to go cheap.

How many teams regret their decision to pay their quarterback $50+ million AAV? Miami and Arizona come to mind. Those two franchises misjudged the value of their QB1 are paying quarterbacks that are playing elsewhere. And they’re not the first teams to find out the hard way mistakes can be made. The Denver Broncos made a huge mistake trading significant assets for and subsequently paying significant money for a quarterback that finished his career elsewhere essentially “on their dime”. If it is NFL teams that name the price, Eagles started the $50+ million QB1 parade, not long after the Cowboys agreed to a $60 million AAV deal, why can’t Tampa Bay be granted the same prerogative?

Philadelphia, Arizona, Dallas, Denver, Miami, as just a few examples, all decided what was in their best interest in whatever circumstances they were in at the time. I do not not see why Tampa Bay should not consider the experiences of all those teams, consider their current circumstances, and make a decision they feel is in their best interest.

Based on Mayfield’s performance in conjunction with the Buccaneers’ performance, the Buccaneer’s are making their own decision. They are not allowing other teams to make it for them. The Cowboys have a legitimately top NFL quarterback and they probably paid a bit too much. Baker Mayfield is nowhere near as effective as Dak Prescott. Baker’s resume is more Wentz than it is Mahomes. Tampa Bay is being prudent. It’s about time some NFL team is.

The Bucs realize that they need a lot more to actually compete against this likes of the Rams. Mayfield is good but isn't it. It's also why they are going to trade Vea. The objective is to get young and rebuild.

..its tough one, daddio. Bucs recently won a SB with Brady.

Then Mayfield steps in. Bucs start to skid.

The par is a mirage of sorts. Brady just happen to land on good team, that put it together that year.

It's all bad luck or good luck. Anything in the middle doesnt matter.
Actually he came in after Brady led them to a losing record, but squeaked into the playoffs where we blew them out.

So he inherited a below .500 team.

I would trade Dak for Mayfield in a heartbeat.
I don’t know I would in a heartbeat, but I certainly strongly entertain it. And that’s not a negative on Dak. It’s the same reason I was onboard with the Parsons deal.

The team has shown the limit with Dak, as it had with Parsons. It’s the same as the Rams were with Goff.

if we could get mayfield seriously cheaper then Dak then yeah
I think Dak is better but not by much

The player is right for wanting the most he can possibly get, but the team is right for wanting a deal that benefits their ability to sign other players.
Until he insists on being paid more than he is worth, then he is not right.

I get your point but he really has to insist on getting his worth (at least in the ball park). He's 31 now so age is starting to become an issue. He has overcome the incompetence he was surrounded by early in his career & proven he can do the job. It's not his problem that he seems to be caught in the wrong time with a team that is looking to clean house next year. Cap just keeps going up so no reason for him to take less than players like Dak, Love, Lawrence have taken for contracts already on the books.

Open market, I can't see him not getting multiple offers for what he's asking.
Absolutely. And his worth is around 30-35 mil. It is not 50 mil.
