Mayock's Mock

I think the problem with Mayock’s mock drafts is exactly the opposite.

I think he picks players based solely on who he feels is the best player and who he thinks fits best with any particular team. I honestly don’t think he does any homework or research on info coming out of the teams themselves.

The Cowboys are a perfect example. They are usually very transparent leading up to the draft. If the draft fell the way he said it would, our front office would have Leighton Vander Esche, D.J. Moore, Rashaan Evans, and James Daniels (possibly even Harold Landry) ahead of Sutton on their board.

Yes, they spent time with Sutton, but he is a Round 2 prospect. But all MM sees is that Sutton is the receiver most like Dez, and so the lazy conclusion is to assign Courtland Sutton to Dallas.

I am at a loss to understand why Mayock is heralded as such a Draft Guru at NFL Network when he seems to do so little work attempting to find out the inside scoop on what the teams are actually coveting in Round 1.

He does not like to do mock drafts.

He likes to focus on the draft prospects, not on team needs.

I would be similar if I were a media draft analyst. I would want to study the prospects.

What teams will do is just a guessing game.

What I want from draft analysts is an accurate analysis of each player.

My mock draft is basically rank the prospects from 1 to 32 and assign #1 to the team with pick #1 and assign pick #2 to the team with pick #2, etc..

People acting like Courtland Sutton isnt a baller crack me up, this dudes sick! If hes the pick il get excited about it hes been considered a stud for a couple years, so what if hes more the 30th rated player doesnt matter, JuJu went Second round last year and would have been a hell of a pick if we chose him over Taco imo regardless if we could have had him later, Get the baller like the saints did w Kamara, I prefer Ridley but this dude has hands like Alshon Jeffery and way more speed!

People keep worrying about his seperation but when I watch his highlights he consistantly gets seperation but always has to slow down and come back to the traffic for underthrown balls which he usually owns like a pig among guinney pigs!

In some ways hes the obvious choice and Id rather have half of him than 3 Vander Cerpenters

Let's look at Mayock's Top 100 released yesterday:

Does reaching for his own 2nd round WR make any sense at 19? The guy should be in play at 50 according to his list.

13. Rashaan Evans, LB, Alabama
18. Harold Landry, DE, Boston College
20. Leighton Vander Esch, LB, Boise State
25. D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland
27. Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama
41. Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU
48. Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M
49. James Washington, WR, Oklahoma State
50. Anthony Miller, WR, Memphis
54. D.J. Chark, WR, LSU

I love watching Mike Mayock and I am always excited for his annual mock BUT....

He picked Courtland Sutton at 19. I would be heartbroken. However it isn't as bad as LVE.

So, I take it you're not looking forward to us taking LVE in the first then trading up to get Sutton in the early second?

Does making any of our picks with any considerations to to Mayock or Maynotocks make any sense?

Weird that he would mock us Sutton (#41 in his rankings) over 2 receivers who are ranked higher (Moore, Ridley). I think we are interested in Sutton in Rd. 2 only.

In what way does it make sense for the Cowboys to reach over 20 picks to take a WR that should be around the area of their 2nd round pick?

In the way that all youre opinions on Sutton is false, period!

Please dont try to shove idiot predraft lists down my throat, Suttans a first round pick all day long and you will be educated about his true percieved value tomorrow, but u keep reading those outdated draft guides if u like. Il trust our fo which has drafted great! Yall said the same thing about fredrick allthough he shut you all up like sutton will regardless if we draft him imo

I hope your are right. Just because you seem to be a homer for him doesn't mean we all should be.

I get your point but I worry. I am a homer for Vea and Derwin but the next guy may not be. We all have our opinions and mine is LVE has a higher chance from what I have seen and read that I don't love the idea of him at 19. I think the 19th pick would be better suited for someone else.

Again he may be awesome in the NFL. Myself, you, everyone else on this forum and the world of football has to guess at every single player to wonder if they are capable of making the NFL leap.

I get where you’re coming from and I don’t expect everyone to agree.
As an FYI: I’ve said for months that Vea is my #1 choice at #19. James is the only player I’d even consider trading a few spots up for, and that if Vea isn’t there at #19, my hope would be for a trade back to pick up an additional 2nd or 3rd. Then grab either Wynn/Daniels/Hernandez or LVE.
Yes, I am a homer. I hope LVE is a huge success, but I’m not saying there’s no way he will be a bust. I’m just saying that if he is, it won’t be because he doesn’t like football, which seemed to be the issue with Carpenter

It's Mayocks own rankings. It's a huge reach by his own rankings!

Not really. Hopefully I am completely wrong and we get a stud. Lol

I think they value his actual analysis of the players.

Even he hates doing mock drafts---he does only one per year.

HOWEVER

Mke Mayock is the 5th most accurate mock drafter in the country over the last 5 years.

His job is not to guess what teams are doing but to give assessment on how good a player is. Which is way more important

Rick Gossilin used to win all the mock draft contests, but it didn't men he knew more (or even much) about football...just tha he had scoop on who was going were for one round in the draft.

A guy named Jason Boris is the best at doing mock drafts in the country over the last 6 years.
So who does Jason say Dallas takes?
