Dallas needs another 3rd rounder or the NT may not get addressed properly.

Oh, not that high on Mazi because of lack of production. Benton made more plays in the same conference.
Mazi is boom or bust…

You can draft a run plugger and hope he turns into a pass rusher 3 rounds later.

I agree, like Benton the most, but glad they are finally at least looking at addressing the position with a high pick. Still need to actually see it to believe it

Yup, I'd love Becton, but I wouldn't be upset if we got Mazi Smith. At least it'd be a big effort at trying to solve the NT position. Plus, rotating him with Hankins that would be good.

Blarf….
He better hope we don’t draft Avila in the first and Mazi in the second. He’d get whooped everyday in practice

We hype up these DTs every year and they always fall further than we expected.

McNeil was one of my favorites of the last 3 years and he later til the 3rd. Same for Travis Jones. They were both better than any NT in this class.

My point is just like Parsons at Penn St. His job was not to rush the passer. I mean you sound like one of those guys that think because Baker, Tebow, Johnny lit up in college they going to do the same at the pro level. Mazi is a physical specimen that I believe Quinn can turn into a three down 1 tech.
No, your point was to blame his lack of production on the scheme in Michigan. Do you think he’ll be brought here to rush the passer?

30 games and just 6 TFL.

I think he will be one of the better draft prospects and would excel in Quinn’s system over Michigans. Just like Parsons did compared to Penn St. Mazi is a great prospect and is worth the 26 pick.

There’s no correlation with Parsons though.

Parsons put up the following his last season at Penn State as an off ball LB:

109 tackles
14 TFL
5 sacks
5 PDs
4 FFs

I agree with the general notion that Quinn would likely be able to get the best out of him, but I’m not spending the 26th pick on a developmental NT that doesn’t play heavy snaps.

Hard to compare the two because of the positions they play. I just think Smith would be a missing piece to our defensive line. Yeah he could bust but I think he would be excellent with us.

Mazi is a potential 3rd or late 2nd round pick. Payne was 14 and ranked higher. They are not in the same realm
Based on what? You aren't basing it on consensus draft boards or this websites view of Payne back then. They love him now after being proven wrong

What are you talking about? Payne was drafted #14 in the first round in real life. Mazi will not. Not the same realm of talent.

So because one team drafted Payne 14 means they aren't in the same realm? That's like saying Taco isn't in the same realm as Carl Lawson  do you know what logic is?
