Davis came into the league at 341 pounds. He has dropped 26 pounds and at 6'6", 315, will be interesting to see if he still the same run stopper.

Mazi went from about 330 to 308 if I recall. Now Mazi was never the same prospect that Davis was, and Mazi never showed anyone that he could eat space like Davis. But I think we can agree that what the coaches did to Mazi, making him lose that weight, did nothing for his game. IMO Mazi was never given an honest chance to prove that he could be that run stopper in the middle at 330+. It is rare for a DT to be a solid starter right out of college. Do I think Mazi is a good football player? No, but perhaps if the coaching staff let him take his lumps at DT weighing in at 330, he could have at least developed into an average DT instead of getting blown up at the line every play. That in itself would help the interior of the line.

I understand Davis did this on his own (contract year, wants to be better). Surprisingly, on only 1/3 of the snaps, Davis had the same effectiveness against the QB that Milton Williams did. If Davis loses his effectiveness, then we might be able to give justification to the position that the coaches are in part to blame for Mazi's ineffectiveness. If Davis becomes a better player and Mazi can't put it together, then maybe Mazi needs to find a new home.

Mazi stepping up would be a boon for our defense.

Did he though?

I saw the pic of Mazi with his "quote" then saw same pic with Davis and his quote....

They were exactly the same.

Seemed very AI generated to me.

Leaves me hesitant to believe.

I don't think Mazi's weight is the problem. It's his head/attitude.
It’s impossible to know because do we really know his head or attitude? We don’t know much about him other than his comment about wanting to hurt people which was a clear attempt at trying to serve what fans want to hear but backfired it seems.

Weight has nothing to do with Mazi, he has struggled since he was drafted. His contract and owner's ego are the only things keeping him on this roster.

This article had a partial write-up with the coaches with Mazi being mentioned

Sizing Up: Plenty of the early training camp conversation has centered around the weight loss of Mazi Smith and the collective lack of size on the interior defensive line.
When asked about the importance of size on the defensive line, Matt Eberflus mentioned that it matters. However, only in certain spots. Saying that the defensive tackles need to handle a double team, and when it's 600-pounds against 300-pounds, it's tough to hold a position.
But when it pertains to size off the edge, Eberflus believes that length and speed are important elements, sometimes more than size. This now begs the question, how does Eberflus plan to use Smith in those certain situations. - (Kyle Youmans)

Stupid draft pick, out of desperation, because we don't participate in Free Agency.

Davis has shown he can actually play. Apparently this staff or prior ones havent figured out Mazi isnt twitchy enough for a 3T or strong and fundamentally sound enogh for a 1T. Or maybe they have.

Mazi’s biggest issue is that he is the slowest DT in the history of the sport.

Mazi's problem seems to be more psychological than anything. On one of the Cowboys shows a week or so ago they were saying if coaches got on him he just checked out
..yep, and I dont know if it can be fixed. This is year three, still waiting for light to come on.

Jordan Davis still weighs 330lbs. He gained weight after he entered the league and was around 356lbs last season

Eagles DT Jordan Davis lost 26 pounds this offseason

...dont think so. He just doesn't have NFL talent, to make the difference.
Agree. His weight isn’t the major reason for his lack of success. He’s a freak athlete but that doesn’t show on the field. He so slow off the snap it negates any quickness he has. He’s also not good at leverage and I’m not sure the effort is there. He has the athletic skills but just not a good football player
