Does anyone have some scouting reports on Marion Barber from the 2005 Draft? I'm curious to see what his strengths and weaknesses were, what people said about him, and why exactly he wasn't drafted until the 4th round.
Thanks!
Lindy's draft analysis:
4 (109) Marion Barber III, RB, Minnesota
Shared duties but can handle full load...Can get outside and makes nice cuts...Some scouts believe he needed another year in college...Keeps going when hit, even though he isn't particularly powerful
Sporting news draft guide:
10. Marion Barber, Minnesota*
5-11 210 4.50 3rd round
NFL Comparison: Travis Henry
Strengths: Has adequate size and good lower-body strength. Shows good burst around the corner and adequate speed in the open field. Changes direction quickly and can be elusive. Is a reliable receiver and big-play threat. Is an experience punt and kick returner.
Weaknesses: Must become patient and let blocks develop. Is somewhat inconsistent and runs too high at times. Doesn't run sharp pass routes. Has durability concerns; was a medical redshirt in 2002 because of hamstring injury. Would benefit from another college season.
Bottom line: Barber is rushing things by entering the draft, but he has the talent to ab an NFL contributer. he will need time to improve his technique and patience as a runner. But with his upside, he could be a sleeper as a late day 1 selection.
