JJ has lost his ability to read the hole because the line played so poorly his first two seasons that he is shell shocked. He runs right into the hole the play is designed for and rarely makes a move. MBIII is doing the opposite and averaging a yard more.
While we're at it, Ratcliffe should be starting over Spears.
