In my opinion, I think that McBriar was one of the best gems found during Parcells' tenure here, and I think he is very good at his job. I'd love to see him regain his prior form, but realistically, that might not happen.

I think it is possible that we might draft a punter with a late round pick (who might be one of the top 5 punters in this years class) as insurance for McBriar.

In the event that the rookie beats out McBriar outright due to performance or McBriar's health issues, what are the cap ramifications?

This may sound far fetched but every year there is roster turnover in positions that were not contemplated before they occurred.

No way we draft a punter. We may take a flyer on UDFA for camp fodder, but a 75% Matt McBriar is better than 90% of the punters.

Yes, he was injured on his kicking foot, but once healed it will actually be stronger than before. Depending on his strength training his leg might have lost some muscle, but he has plenty of time to build it back up before the season starts. I would bring in some FA punters to replace Paulescu just in case, but drafting would be stupid.

I didnt think we would draft a kicker when we took Folk, but that turned out pretty well. We could take a punter in the 6th or early 7th round and possibly get our pick of the litter.

Did you see who we had on our roster? It came as no suprise that we were looking at a kicker leading up to the draft. Drafting a punter is a wasted pick, because McBriar is a top 5 punter at worst and would beat out anyone we would draft. His injury will not prevent him from continuing where he left off, his conditioning might but he has plenty of time to get back in shape.
