McCarthy: John Kuhn is an excellent comp for Hunter Luepke

No knock on Deuce, but my actives at RB would be Pollard, Dowdle and Luepke. I see both Dowdle and Vaughn as No. 2 backs that would spell Pollard, and Vaughn isn't needed for the time being as a returner. Luepke would get on the kicking teams and could be used in short-yardage situations and as a fullback on some downs. Of course, we may activate all four early on and give both Dowdle and Vaughn some snaps in place of Pollard. More RB by committee, with Pollard being the committee chair.

I wonder if they will activate all 4 RBs? Either sit Hendershot, an OL, or a WR depending on the matchup?

Deuce and Luepke can provide some nice mismatches in certain situations that may prove more valuable than an extra skill position player or emergency OL.

If Luepke can handle significant H Back snaps, then he serves as both RB and TE in certain looks. Will be interesting to see how he develops, but Deuce’s speed is to valuable to sit on the bench IMO.

We need big play guys on offense, and WCO is perfect for players who can excel at RAC after a short, high percentage catch

Funny because I was listening to Love of the Star and BB was just saying Hunter is nothing like John Kuhn.

Was in Golds Gym in York, PA years ago when John was in for a workout.

I'm taller than him but he was just...W-I-D-E. Not overly muscular but looked country strong, but it was this dudes body width that really caught your attention. He's one of those guys that was just straight-up different from birth.

Deuce is playing every game if I'm making the call. Rico Dowdle is just a guy.

I don't have a problem with that, but I'm not sure how the coaching staff feels about that. My point wasn't really Dowdle vs. Deuce, because I agree with you; it's more about roles. If Dowdle's role is a backup/direct sub for Pollard, and Deuce is seen more as a specialty back, then Dowdle has to be active.

Frankly, I almost wrote in that earlier post that I think Vaughn can be the backup/direct sub for Pollard. I'm just not sure the coaches would be comfortable with that without more evidence ... which may be a good reason to carry all four at the start of the season. Give Deuce a shot at the primary backup job and if he can't handle it, they have Dowdle to use.

I just want Luepke carried because I think he offers size and power for certain situations that the others don't possess. He also should be a special-teams stalwart in coverage and protection.

I don't think we'll take fewer than three TEs to games, but I do have four backs among my 48 actives (with the emergency QB not counting against the numbers). I only have two OL, though (Edoka as the guard/tackle backup and Hoffman as the center backup who we have to hope will never play).

Well, that is high praise. McCarthy used John Kuhn extensively in their offense and was a valued part of the packers offense. Good news for Luepke fans. Sounds like he will have a real impact for the team with that comparison.

If we’re basing everything on the 2010 season alone, maybe. He averaged 5 carries/game. The rest of his career, he was primarily a blocker and nothing else.
