You want Tyler Smith to step in and be the man, not a 40 year old guy on the backside of his career.

But that 40 year old guy would make for good depth and be a nice mentor to the kid, so sign him. It's not like the Cowboys can't afford him on a one-year deal.

He's not going to be a "depth signing". He'll be a starter, as he should be.

Philly fans need to keep feeling irrelevant. By the way, if you had your druthers, how would you play em?
A)Peters at LT, Smith at LG
or
B)Smith at LT, Peters at LG

Especially to piss off Eagles fans? Peters at LT and Smith at LG. The more important reason is because Tyler was used at LG through training camp and preseason. I think it would be better for Peters to at least start at LT and Smith at LG. Thus, if Smith is to eventually move to LT, he can learn from Peters, since they're a very similar style of tackle, how to play at a professional level.

Eagle fans despise the Cowboys because we have the trophies, the ratings, the hype, the numbers, etc., etc. Dallas is superior in virtually every way, they know it and are eaten up over it. Our indifference INFURIATES them. Who CARES if Eagle fans are pissed off? I chuckle, then it’s on to something else.

Lol pissed, we have thoroughly enjoyed last 25 years of the greatness of the Cowboys, particularly the last 24 hours of anguish on this forum over a 40 year tackle.

Yeah, Philly’s the NFL’s “Moral Victory Champion!” (Chuckle, yawn)

Im not sure they start a 40 year old at LT unless Tyler is injured or bad...they are going to give the rookie every chance to earn that spot because thats what they need him to be...now can Peters play LG thats the question.

I have 0 issue letting Tyler start at LT. But not when he has a high ankle sprain. Why risk it? Just start Peters for a couple games at LT. Then we can start the kid at LT.

If he is injured then they will sit him. Assuming they sign Peters thats a good filler for sure.

Because LT is too important to just toss a rookie there to groom into being the future. We didn't even do this for Tyron Smith, and Tyler isn't even remotely close to being on Tyron's level rookie to rookie comparison.

Peters last season with the Bears should give him the starting job. I want Dak upright more often rather than seeing "da kid" having growing pains.

Okay and? We'll lose what, a little under $2 million? I'd rather sign Peters and hope to get 10+ games out of him than go with what we have now. There is very little downside to signing Peters.

Yes I concur. I have been informed that he was pretty consistent last year and played well. Can’t hurt to try at a cheap rate. Hell what we got, like 21 million under the cap.

Stephen and his cheapy ways have taught me to keep my hopes at arm's length.
I'll temper my emotions until there's a signing, regardless of whomever it may be.

Let's have no illusions that this particular player is the only one on the planet to help us.

I thought it was closer to $31 million.

I don't think we need Jason Peters. I like that he hasn't been signed.

We've been spoiled when it comes to the position of LT. 15 of the last 26 seasons, the Cowboys LT has been a Pro Bowler.

Mark Tuinei, Flozell Adams, Tyron Smith and even Larry Allen for one season have provided almost three decades of stability to that position for the Cowboys.
