He's correct. People can get off this "he's a rookie". We are in January now. He's been through training camp and now a full season and he started a playoff game. He's closer to a 2nd year player now. He's not green and has a great coaching staff and a system that hides his weaknesses and plays to his strengths. They have been doing this a long time going back to Kap. Any system that can make deep runs with Jimmy G is a great system. In fact, I think they are better with Purdy than Jimmy G. He has much better awareness and pocket instincts than Jimmy G.

Everything he said is absolutely true about Purdy. He looks as poised as a 10 year vet out there.

DQ and his defense have to make him uncomfortable and look like a rookie for the 1st time.
Seattle made him look uncomfortable in the 1st half. He finally came down to earth a little. But then completely turned the corner in the 2nd half with that very long drive to take the lead to start the 2nd half and never looked back. That was great experience for him. Overcame a shaky start and didn't crumble.

I think that the sack fumble was a big part of that.

I do agree with that as it took all the air out of Seattle. They were on a long drive themselves and inside the Seattle 10-15. That killed everything. You can't shorten the game with long drives and not get points. I knew the game was over then.

But still, that drive to start the 3rd was a thing of beauty. 8-9min and a TD. That put ALL the pressure back on Seattle to answer. And then Purdy took the ball after that fumble and scored again.

It's also very important we protect the ball. You absolutely can't give SF a short field or take points off the board with turnovers deep in their territory. I think last year, they had a defensive touchdown or close to it? I think in the 2nd half. We need to stop these long drives they love to do. Reminds me of our 2016 team. We went on 8-10 min drives abusing teams with our OL and run game and the field opened up for Dak to pick his spots. And we were very efficient in the redzone. That is what SF is on offense except they have the best defense on the other side, unlike our 2016 team where our defense was not good but our offense kept them off the field and we got them leads to where the opposing team became one dimensional.

That illegal man call ruined everything. Geno Smith was about to take the lead against them approaching the 4th quarter. We were looking at 24-23 Seattle early 4th quarter but that illegal man called forced 3rd and long and subsequently the fumble.

Not saying the Niners couldn't snatch the game away from them in the 4th quarter, but if the Seachickens can stay with them for 3 quarters.... the Cowboys should be able to unless there's a slew of mistakes. Seattle didn't make many until that illegal man call.

He meant to say:
"Back in the Burgh, growing up, some yinzer named 'Brock Purdy' would have had the crap kicked out of him as we all sat around watching and drinking I.C. Light. Well, not me - I drank the regular stuff. None of that light beer."

Brock has poise but he hasn't seen it all, we have to show him a few things he hasn't seen while keeping him contained in the pocket. Pressure can unravel any quarterback, it speeds up the clock in their head, it forces them into bad decisions. I think we can force him into a few mistakes.

We’re all waiting for Purdy to falter, but so far he hasn’t flinched. Who knows maybe San Francisco struck gold with him. I’m certainly not trying to compare him to Tom Brady, but this is similar to when Brady took over for New England after Drew Bledsoe was injured and led them to a Super Bowl win. It’s happened at least 5 times that I can recall where a QB took over during the season and led their team to a championship. It happened with Jeff Hostetler, Doug Williams, Kurt Warner, Tom Brady and Nick Foles. However, no rookie QB has ever led a team to a Super Bowl.

I don't think these cases are similar. Way more parity these days. A stacked team up until 2001 was enough to win a Super Bowl regardless who was Quarterback, that held much stronger back then than now. Nowadays lots of teams are at the same level where previous to that the few standout teams clearly stood out. Warner's 1999 team was an offensive juggernaut and casted a shadow over most of the NFL. '87 Skins was a standout team too. Considered inferior to the 49ers maybe, but the Vikings upset over the Niners opened the door for the skins as the next best bet.

2001 it should've been the Rams because they were far superior, but that was the emergence of Belichick, the defense of New England got way better at the right time, and the tuck rule game... Brady was shut out at halftime and a controversial call got them past the Raiders.

Only one of these I'd say is similar is Nick Foles.

I'm hoping to see Purdy get some pressures that he hasn't seen on a regular basis. Their OL has been good enough to avoid that, so far. I think we'll likely do well to manage getting a few sacks, and lots of pressures if our D-line comes fully prepared. We must again avoid mistakes on both sides of the ball to come out with a convincing win. Hopefully Dak and, ahem, Maher, will offer their "A" games to the 49ers contest.

He isnt a big QB. He's built light, thin. But has major wheels and instincts/accuracy. I feel if we can hit him often and affect him via the accumulative effect, we can win by making him force a pass.
