First of all, I couldn't care less about Dak's opinion on the matter. Two playoff wins in nearly a decade does not (should not?) equate to front office decisions.Jerry wants McCarthy back. The biggest stumbling block is the fan base is tired of the same old, same old.
Here comes the propaganda.
Many teams want McCarthy. Cowboys are lucky to have McCarthy. Super Bowl winner. Dak will talk to Jerry about his love for McCarthy. Dak is a fan of McCarthy. Soon other stars will all weigh on with the same opinion. Will we get Parsons tomorrow saying how great McCarthy is? Lamb the following day?
The powers that be will sample the fan base and sign McCarthy as soon as the propaganda takes hold.
Regarding Mike, of course he's being considered for other openings. He won 36 games in three years and did what he could with the crap salad he was given this season. He's a Super Bowl champion and before anyone brings up Rodgers, how many rings does A-Aron have? He isn't the best coach in the league. We could maybe find an upgrade with some of the young coordinators coming available, but there's no clear upgrade on the market at this time.
I've been highly critical of Mike this season, but as it winds down, surveying the landscape, I can't help but wonder if change for the sake of change is the right move. The best teams in the league hold onto their coaches, and the worst are routinely churning through coaches, chasing their tails hoping to strike gold. If we let him walk, who's the guy? Kellen Moore seems to be the prime candidate. Do we think Kellen is an upgrade over Mike? My opinion is an emphatic HELL NO. Vrabel is my favorite candidate, but would be work for the Jones family? Do we have faith that the Jones family can find a guy better fit to lead this franchise deep into the playoffs? I don't.
I can't help but wonder if hiring a hot shot OC to pair with Zimmer at DC under Mike is the best shot that we have to make something happen with the current core in place. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, I just don't see a better road to take at this time.
