McNABB WANTS MORE PLAYMAKERS
In his most recent personal blog entry, Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb lobbies for the team to add more playmakers.
"Now that the season is over and we are concentrating on 2008, I hope we are able to secure some playmakers in all three phases of the game," McNabb wrote on Monday. "Maybe some of those playmakers are already on the roster but have struggled with injuries, myself included, that have held us back a little."
McNabb also said: "I'm surprised that anyone would have a problem with me, or anyone else in the organization, expressing a desire to bring in more quality players. We were 8-8. There is room for improvement. This is a competitive sport. It's about putting together the best players, the best team, and giving yourself the best chance to win.

"We didn't disrespect anyone when we traded for Takeo Spikes or signed Kevin Curtis last year. I don't think the Patriots were being disrespectful to Troy Brown or Reche Caldwell when they brought in Moss, Stallworth and Welker. Over the past few years, when the 49ers added Nate Clements, the Seahawks added Julian Peterson, the Giants added Plaxico Burress, the Colts added Adam Vinatieri, it was in an effort to add playmakers. In each case the team identified a way to improve and they took action."

One point McNabb doesn't make is that the team could have obtained a possible playmaker in round two of the 2007 draft, but instead picked another quarterback.
Regardless of whether McNabb's points are valid, nothing is gained by airing these preferences publicly. And a cynic (um, we don't know any) might think that it's all part of McNabb's plan to get himself traded to a team that already has more playmakers.

You folks crack me up with the lack of respect paid to McNabb -- he's had far more success than any Cowboy QB since Aikman -- and he's done it with very little around him. If McNabb had the stable of talent that Romo does, he'd tear it up.

You are correct but hey, it's philly. I'm glad they haven't figured it out and continue to struggle. :laugh2:

If the NFC sucked as hard as it did when the Eagles were successful, or Romo had the defensive backing that McNabb had....

I mean, there's all sorts of ways you can spin it. Winning is a team thing. Observing how a QB plays and carries himself is something entirely different.

Mcnabb had the best playmaker in the league 3 years ago ..... and he folded just like he always does ..... then ran said playmaker off.

Mcnabb just cannot get it done in a big game ...... he becomes violently ill from pressure.

Of course, Romo never had to defend himself against idiots like Rush Limbaugh.

First off respect is earned and it doesn't just come from your play on the field. That is only part of the equation. The other part is the character of the player, and I think the entire world has seen what type of character McNabb has.

It's just like TO. He was one of the best receivers in football, but noone respected him because of his character. He finally started to change (or at least make it appear to have changed) this season and he is starting to earn respect from not only fans, but other players and the media.

If he returns to his old ways, then any respect he has earned will vanish in the blink of an eye.

If McNabb wants respect, then maybe he should look in the mirror and ask himself why everyone hates him. Why do most fans of teams other than Green Bay still respect and love Brett Farve? Maybe because he is a man of high character and a great player.

I have no idea what your point is. If it was just to bash Rush Limbaugh, cool. Otherwise...

So what exactly are you saying -- what aspect of his character do you have a problem with? He's a player who is under tremendous scrutiny and gets slammed, often for innocuous comments.

I think at times that McNabb was dead on when he said that he's being held to a higher standard than other QBs. This whole "high" character thing is just a wedge people use to slam Donovan. Is Jeff Garcia a bad character guy? He had similar issues with one of his WRs. I don't hear folks slamming him over it.

You think he is held to a higher standard than Brett Farve? Tony Romo? Eli Manning? No, he isn't. Thats just an excuse for someone who is getting the scrutiny because he isn't making the plays and he opens his mouth and invites the media into his backyard.

Again, it's like TO. Last year and all the years before the media was in TOs backyard because TO would invite them by opening his mouth. This year, TO shut his mouth and the best the media could muster is a headline that "TO has been quite, but just wait. He will explode before the season ends!"

Isn't making plays? Donovan's team won how many NFC East championships since he got there?

Eli has had a few good games and the media is now in love with him. Just how many games is Don going to have to win to get that same respect.
