The on again off again rumor of the Dallas Cowboys wanting to trade up for Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, may not be on again, but the running backs 4.27 unofficial 40 time is only going to fuel more rumors of the Cowboys trying to move up.

For once, it looks like the Miami Dolphins may actually be able to move out of the number 1 overall pick and do so with more than one option. Last week, it was reported that the Atlanta Falcons wanted Matt Ryan so bad that they are considering moving up to one to get him. Rumors today say that they have turned down a 1st round pick from the NY Giants, thinking that a mid-first rounder is more fitting. DeAngelo Hall has been at the center of that late week rumor and some think that he may yet be a part of a Falcons move to number 1.

The Cowboys however have danced around the issue for the last two months. Jerry Jones, a frequent fan in the stands at last years Arkansas Razorbacks games loves what Darren McFadden would bring to a franchise. When asked earlier last year what his team was missing, Jones simply said “a play maker”. McFadden fits that description. Still, Jerry Jones roamed the halls at the Combine and told reporters that a trade up with the Dolphins at number 1 was unlikely. That of course was before today. Before he was video taped sitting in the stands, and then disappear after the first 40 yard dash of one particular running back.

That’s right, Jones left after DM ran his first 40. Coincidence? Not likely. He probably was planning on leaving anyways and wanted to see the kid run. The fact that Jones was present for the 4.27 speed, the 2nd highest of the day, will be the number that sticks in his head as he heads home and not the official 2nd timed 40 at 4.33.

Jones may not come out and say that he wants to move up, no smart general manager or owner will. With the free agency period only days away the Cowboys are going to have to start thinking about their future and what a guy like McFadden can bring to his offense. The same offense that sputtered against the NY Giants in the playoffs. Sure, the Cowboys need another WR and they need another CB, but McFadden puts them in a different position. Whereas a corner and a WR will have to learn and adjust, the RB spot is the position that most often pays immediate rewards in the NFL.

If Jerry Jones had doubts, he really didn’t need to look much further to see what Adrien Peterson brought to the Vikings last year. Then he must ask himself, would a talent like AP have made a difference last year in the post-season? Then ask him if 4.27 is impressive. After he answers yes to both of those, he may be picking up the phone and making a call. Regardless of what anyone says anymore, the Miami Dolphins, the Atlanta Falcons, and again the Dallas Cowboys, are going to be one hot rumor in the next two months.

Good thread... Im all for getting McFadden if we are not to give up services of one Marion Barber III, however the chances of that are highly unlikely.. If we move up for McFadden in would probally mean we would have to give up MBIII and Im not so sure I would like to see that, actually I am sure that I dont want to see that, but I along with eveyone else cant make that decision that resides in the hands of our beloved owner Mr.Jerry Jones

You McFadden fans get life it not going to happen and by the way he had left before the RB's did the forty yard dash. I have better shot at winning 270 Mega Million before that happens.

We don't need a McFadden. He could end up being a bust. We have one of the 5 best RBs in the league right now already. If we need another RB get him later in the draft.

if we can keep MB3 and get McFadden, count me in....looks like some good prospects will fall into round 2.

Wishful thinking from a Dolphins fan.

I hate to keep mentioning this to everybody, but for all of the talk of Jones' mancrush on former Arkansas players, he's yet to draft a player from Arkansas. Former Arkansas players he's signed are Clint Stoerner (a 3rd string QB), Jermaine Brooks (a practice squad player) and Ken Hamlin...a perennial Pro Bowler whom he signed to a one year contract.

So much for the mancrush.

The harsh reality for those who want this trade is that the signing bonus pretty much cancels out a deal.

We have a very good rb but he is not even in the league of top 5 backs. Does he run hard yes and he is productive in the red zone but his running style would break him down before the end of the year with a full 300 carries a game.

That is not to say I hate MBIII people are being silly with top 5 back type of talk when he has not reached the 300 carry mark in this league.

I never imagined JJ signing Zach Thomas.

I am very scared that MB3 and 2 to 3 # 1's get traded by JJ/Lacewell..... for this red flag player.

Can we please just have the draft tomorrow???

Please!

I will be so elated once McFadden goes somewhere else that I just cannot express it.

Same here and I openly admit I love the guy and would love to have him. That doesn't change the fact that the rumored trade scenarios all equate to putting all our eggs in one basket and raping this team.

I do not believe one player, not even a 4.27 in the 40 RB, is the smart move for this team.

I would rather we add talent and depth so that injuries like the one to TO last year cannot cripple us. What do we do if McFadden goes down? It is a stupid idea. It has always been a stupid idea, and no amount of couch GM logic and Madden thinking are going to change that.

I believe we are too far away from being the best team in the NFL to gamble on one player.

Why don't you post a thread in the OT Zone and talk about ultimate fighting. You might actually have a salient point about that topic.

It has nothing to do with the player at all.

It is all about cost.

There isn't anyone who wouldn't happily take McFadden if he could be acquired simply.

But we all know he won't be and that's why there is so much criticism about his play and his character. His worth doesn't outweigh his pricetag.

It is rare that I have seen any player like it. Never before have I seen trade talk associated with a player a full year before that player even finished his final college season as it has been with this player. And it is still going on.

April cannot come soon enough to put an end to this rubbish.
