Frankly..

I'd like to see both Morris AND McFadden in the same backfield.

That way we have the advantage on the defense..

they would not know WHAT was coming and Linehan could dial up everything in the playbook.

Can we? Huh? Right now?

That has rarely worked in the NFL. The Cowboys tried Dorsett and Herschal Walker together.

Having said that, they could use McFadden as a Receiver on many of those snaps. He would likely be a better receiver than Dez.

I like McFadden. He's better running outside the tackles, has better burst, can block well and he's a good recieving back. With Morris I think you got maybe a better pure runner, better fit for zone blocking and maybe better vision? He seems like a better player when it comes to getting tough yards, especially short yardage situations. He's just limited as a blocker and recieving back.
Will teams sell out to stop the run is what I'm wondering. 8 man fronts? Haven't seen many of those in the last few games anyway have we?
They are a good complement to each other. Against some defenses McFadden might be better and against other defenses Morris might be better.

Anyone who thinks McFadden is a workhorse over Morris hasn’t watched much football over the last decade.

Sure McFadden had an okay season with us but he has had durability concerns his entire career and frankly he is not that great of a football player. He is not very good in pass protection and frankly he was pretty bad in preseason, that’s why Morris passed him on the depth chart.

McFadden would’ve been retired by now if he didn’t go to Arkansas.

Rod Smith...Rod Smith...Rod Smith...Let him get some carries.

I would rather give him carries than anyone.

Our running back depth is way overrated...give me a random 4th round pick with some quickness and fresh legs over a has been and epic first round bust.

This is a very good general assessment of both backs, which is in a nutshell why a back like Zeke is special in that he brings all of this to the table.

I'd say Morris is best suited for the early work and the "dirty yards" and DMC is in for 3rd downs or for a change of pace.

I'm partial to all of our backs in one way or another. I'd really like to see Rod Smith succeed, since he's young, improving and seems to have exceptional power. He catches well and should be able to block well, given his size -- although I'm not so sure he's proven it, as yet.

As I have said before, I believe the reason McFadden has been inactive is because he's too much like Elliott and he offers no additional help elsewhere such as special teams. If the team loses Elliott, I expect McFadden will be his replacement as starter, though I also expect the team will transition to more of a committee approach, possibly even with Morris used more on passing downs.

Bingo!!!!!!!!!!! won again:yourock:....he's a hungry 3-down back. I hate to say this but I don't think we'll see much drop off from Zeke.

Tell you what, even Elliott, also a 4th overall pick, would have been an epic bust if he'd had the misfortune of being drafted by the '07 Raiders with the league worst oline and Jalardass Russell @qb as opposed to the '16 Cowboys with the league best oline and Dak Prescott.
But hey, hate away, and don't let any facts get in your way.

Many have thought that backup Morris would inherit the starting job. Morris has served as Zeke's backup throughout the first five games of the season. Meanwhile, McFadden has been a healthy scratch. He has yet to touch the ball.

Though, the idea to possibly utilize McFadden as the primary back probably stems from the fact he was the team’s starter in 2015. Throughout 16 games, McFadden put up a total of 1,417 yards and scored three touchdowns. It was not a poor campaign by any means. In Morris’ two seasons with the 'Boys, he has tallied just 80 touches in a complementary role to Zeke. To be truthful, when Zeke & Morris would switch out without me catching it, I would find myself yelling GO ZEKE....to only find out it was Morris who moved the pile lol. I like Morris better. Simply because he knows his offense better due to playing.

THOUGHTS?
Dear boy! Morris is the obvious choice! As you implied.
Fans, let go of the past!
McFadden is sooooo 70 biscuits boxes later.
Morris, if allowed, can batter a defensive line into submission.
MORRIS MOJO, blokes!!!!!

Facts?

Here is a few pesky facts...

Jemarcus Russell and McFadden were teammates for two whole seasons, he is not an excuse for McFadden’s failures.

McFadden was available for a 16 game season a grand total of one season out of 7 with the Raiders—his last year when he was part of a committee. If you spend a top 5 pick on a running back and you can literally never count on him to be available every week—he’s a bust.

McFadden was outperformed by other running backs on the roster each of his final 3 seasons with the Raiders, blame Jemarcus Russell for that one.

Would McFadden have been better if he was drafted to a better team? Sure but you can say that about almost every top 5 pick that never turned out. That excuse is getting old especially for a running back that couldn’t stay healthy.

I hope McFadden lights it up but I doubt it. He is on the wrong side of 30 and his 2015 success was not impressive enough for the scouts and coaching staff to decide we need a top 5 pick to upgrade the position. The team would’ve been better off if our backup was one of the countless young backs drafted late that impress every season around the league.

I do not see what everyone else sees in Morris to be the primary RB. He has been good at times, and others times I think, why is he in there.
Well, With McFadden inactive we know why. But Morris does not have it to be the primary RB.

McFadden has it more than Morris. But he can't play the workload that Zeke does. So they both would need to be in a game plan with McFadden the primary. Maybe a 60-30-10 split. Put Rod Smith in there for that 10%. I say 60% for McFadden as he needs to in a flow, get in a groove of the game. As most backs need.

I said it all year, and as some say it now. McFadden has been kept inactive for this very reason. Then he comes in fresh. Not nicked or dinged as most players are by this time.

What players have you been watching the past few years?
He is much better in pass protection than Morris. The t was a concern going into last year with Morris. McFadden has been healthy the past 3 years from football injuries....I just football injuries...so do not count a freak fall as an injury. Who was the QB about 10 years ago cut his finger in the kitchen and missed some game...

Morris couldn't even complete that 70 yard run for a TD. Does that look like the RB you want as your primary. It was the OL and the hole and the defense playing up that sprung him. Zeke and McFadden would have got the TD. But that is not the point. McFadden has been kept inactive for a good reason. And we just may see that come the game against SF. I hope not, I hope Zeke is there.

He was kept inactive because he was unimpressive in preseason and Morris outperformed him. There is no other reason.
