I see no reason for McGee to stay on the roster next year. He hasn't shown significant progress in his development. If we are serious about improving the team, it makes sense to draft a QB to develop (even very high ----ex. A. Rogers) and bring in a vet F/A to be Romo's backup for next year. We need to have a viable chance to win a game or more if Romo is out due to injury. This team's window of opportunity will only stay open so long with Romo at the helm.

sorry, i disagree. He has developed enormously since he came into the league. He has got a very good arm, is mobile and doesnt commit errors.
Dont judge him on that Phillie game, thats not fair, he was running for his life and garrett imo didnt take the reins off him.

He IS our backup next year, i dont see us blowing money on a Kyle Orton type.

We actually did try and bring in Orton when he was released this year but KC beat us to him ..... not that I have anything against McGee.

so if Kitna reitres and we cut McGee then who is our backup? Sorry but even if you don't like him he stays.

He's got an Arm, mobility and size. Perfect guy to get more action to increase his comfort level in the pocket and w/ the offense.

Look around the league and soMe of the retreads. Half the league would take a look

different scenario now, no waivers and he's a FA and will be wanting startes money. Especially with Barkley and Jones staying ins chool i think he's a top acquisition in FA behind Flynn.

4 out of the last 5 games McGee has played in significantly, including preseason, he has been clutch in the 4th. I love his arm, mobility, and toughness. He seems to be a pretty smart guy, too. He needs more playing time for the game to slow down for him and get comfortable, but I like him and what I've seen so far. He's made a lot of progress. And I like how he commands the huddle. When he has to play, you know he's in charge. I like that.

I agree with the OP. He sucks. He always sprints out to his right and goes back 20 yds almost on every play. He can't read coverage, and he hasn't learned that NFL recievers are not wide open like they are in college. He heistates to throw the ball if they are.

I'm from the school that you have it or you don't. He doesn't have it, even as a backup. It was a wasted pick when we made it, and it will be a wasted pick when he is gone.

Agreed. Have no idea why we wasted a pick on this clown. But then again, that whole draft was an abortion. Not one quality person from it

At this point he IS a vet backup, unless you mean a former starter that can't cut it anymore. In which case, it's pretty much the same scenario.

Matt Moore might be available.

I agree any improvement shown by McGee is minimal, but I don't think he's a terrible backup. Unless a guy comes loose that we are familiar with like Moore, no reason to let McGee go just to bring in some other JAG from the draft, who won't know the system and be completely unprepared if Romo goes down.

Not sure which McGee the OP sees on TV. I agree, I like McGee.

Spot on!

He can manage a game as a backup. Who do you think you are going to get as a number 2, RG3? BTW against the Egirls he had the same problem as Romo, no protection.

So, who do you bring in as far a vet backups? There isn't much of a list to choose from. You keep McGee until you come up with another viable option. That doesn't mean you don't draft a young guy to develop, but McGee should be on the team through training camp and pre-season. At that point if someone else shows more as a backup or McGee shows nothing then you make any kind of decision of cutting him. There is no reason to cut him at this point.

I don't like McGee and never have.

I'd prefer we find a vet backup and draft another developmental QB

Who? Serious question. Which vet backup is good enough? Who is even available? There aren't a lot of choices.

JAG.

A lot of backups are.

Not everybody can have Aaron Rogers backing up Brett Favre.

I think he is ok as a 3rd stringer... maybe he could play as backup... but the guy is the king of the check down. You can always tell the guys who can't play the position

.... they check down to quickly
... they quickly complete a 5 yard pass when you need 15 then run off gladly for the punt team as if they accomplished something

Chad Henne, Kyle Orton, and Jason Cambell all could be the sort of guys who could win you a game or two if Romo goes down.

Yes, they all suck in one way or another. But they suck at about the same level of Kitna and much less than McGee

I honestly think Jason Campbell deserves to be a starter. I really liked him and thought that team was better with him than with Carson Palmer. That being said, I'd love to have him as a back up. I honestly believe McGee has more potential, though.

I think Henne would want to start somewhere and he won't resign himself to being a back up, plus I might trust McGee more. McGee doesn't make mistakes. That's what you want in a back up.

I've never liked Orton. Never will.
