I don't know if McGovern would have any trade value at all, but since he was a third-round pick and might fit someone's offense, I wonder if we could package him with our second-round pick and move up earlier in the round. There are several players worth targeting.

Again, though, I don't know if any team would want a player that we essentially have said isn't good enough to start. Maybe if they have a right guard need?

McGovern is good enough to start in this league. But he is only a RG. If some team needs a RG he could be a cheap fill in

Yeah, I just don't know how much draft capital he would buy us, if any. Coupling him with the pick might be enough to move us up some since it would give our trading partner two players and keep them from having to use a pick on OL there.

I don't see us getting enough compensation to make it worth it.

*Edit: Oh I can't read, you're talking about packaging him with a pick to move up. Then no, no way we'd find a taker.

He's good depth for us, but I'd consider it. Maybe throw in one of our 5ths and go get Travis in the 40's.

I think that would be the deal. It would have to be to a team that needs a right guard.

They need oline help and you want to trade an oline player they already have?

smh

We just drafted a starting guard, so McGovern isn't going to get that chance here. He's depth and did well in the big fullback role, so I don't mind keeping him. But if trading him allows us to get a player we want, I think it would be a good idea.

I'll do the math on the trade value chart for moving up in the 2nd round.

A 7th rounder isn't enough to move up one spot.
A 6th rounder can move you up 1 or 2 spots.
A 5th rounder can move you up 3 spots
A 4th rounder can move you up to 8 spots.

So yeah, no real way I can see us getting enough movement to make it worthwhile. You're also giving up any potential for a compensatory selection if he signs with another team next offseason, which is admittedly a near 0% chance of happening anyways.

As we saw last night, the trade value chart doesn't necessarily matter much. Teams were giving up hundreds of points to trade down. All it would take is one with a right guard need that thinks McGoven can fill it, allowing it to use our pick on a different position of need.

Instead of McGovern, what about Schultz? He might get us a mid to late 3rd, maybe even an early 3rd.

Id move him even if its just for another day 3 dart. The 6th round has netted us, Brown, Ced Wilson and Donovan Wilson. Bohanna gave 250 or snaps last year.

They typically dont make that type of move though. They value the depth more than the capital they can. However, Philbin isnt a fan of McGovern supposedly, so maybe this could an instance where they do make that move

They love this kid they just don’t like him as a starter.

Not sure about that....Stephen said one of the reasons they passed on Linderbuam is Smith offered more flex. McGovern has little or no value to us as long as Zack Martin is playing.

Because he can be replaced by a rookie that's cheaper and actually knows how to block.

Trading a starter and expecting to replace him with a second- or third-round draft choice is bad management. We managed to draft Gavin Escobar as a second-round draft pick. You good with going with that kind of player? Sure, we could stumble across a Jason Witten, but there's a lot of misses that could happen as well. Trade away depth, not starters.

I normally value the depth as well, but I think Farniok can be the swing G/C (since he dressed quite a bit last yer) and Ball might can be the swing tackle.

Stephan was saying he expects Farniok to compete with Biadasz and Ball to compete with Steele
