Trading a starter and expecting to replace him with a second- or third-round draft choice is bad management. We managed to draft Gavin Escobar as a second-round draft pick. You good with going with that kind of player? Sure, we could stumble across a Jason Witten, but there's a lot of misses that could happen as well. Trade away depth, not starters.
Normally, I'd agree, but Schultz isn't anything special. He is horrible at blocking and has his share of drops. He does find an open area well.
I don't know if McGovern would have any trade value at all, but since he was a third-round pick and might fit someone's offense, I wonder if we could package him with our second-round pick and move up earlier in the round. There are several players worth targeting.
Again, though, I don't know if any team would want a player that we essentially have said isn't good enough to start. Maybe if they have a right guard need?
