You can see Wade is thinking this kid is a really nice addition, and not just for the future.

------------LB Lee looks a lot like Brooking

IRVING, Texas – Sean Lee had a blast watching film of Keith Brooking during the Penn State linebacker’s pre-draft visit to Valley Ranch.

“He is still at the top of his game,” Lee said. “He still plays with an unbelievable amount of passion and intensity. You can see it on the field. He is still a Pro Bowl football player. It is really fun to watch him and I am hoping to learn from him.”

Lee, who reminds the Cowboys brass of Brooking, will get that opportunity on a full-time basis after the Cowboys traded up to the 55th overall pick to take him.

Jerry Jones and Wade Phillips both called Lee, whom the Cowboys had ranked in the top half of the first round, as a “Brooking-type” player without being prompted. They see similar intensity, intelligence and intangibles. And, as is the case with Brooking, all those traits come in an athletic package that can do everything the Cowboys need from an inside linebacker.

“He fundamentally does all the things that you need a linebacker to do, and he plays well in space, too,” Phillips said. “There really aren’t any weaknesses as far as his game goes. You don’t find very often in inside ‘backers.”

Lee will watch every move Brooking makes and soak up every word he speaks, much like Lee did with all the great linebackers that preceded him at Penn State. Lee believes that being around Brooking and Bradie James will teach him how to be a pro.

The Cowboys believe they got a steal in Lee, who slid in the draft due to concerns about his right knee, and expect him to be a significant contributor right away. Expect the 6-2, 236-pound Lee to play in nickel situations, special teams and occasionally spell James or Brooking in the base package.

“He’s got tremendous makeup and the athletic ability to go with it,” Jones said. “It would surprise me if a guy like Sean Lee is not playing a lot of plays.”

Sounds like there will be a lot of film of Lee in a Cowboys uniform at this time next year. If Wade and Jerry are right, it'll look a lot like watching Brooking--------------------------------------------------------------

Pedigree.

Student of the game.

Great selection, I don't care what the whiners are saying.

This pick makes me ecstatic. We went BPA, like I've been screaming to do. This kid is going to be beast. Watch.

I don't understand why having a different opinion becomes 'whining'.

I haven't as of yet to my knowledge called anyone a homer for liking the pick.

Just a thought.

I know all about his idiot brother. Abel had one too. Didn't make him a bad guy.

Yep like I said when we picked him had not been for his knee this kid would have gone top 10 no doubt. In my eyes we got two top ten pics for a low 1st 2nd and 3rd. I love it.

Probably. Tough for me to see it if you deleted it, no?

I am actually pretty stoked about the pick. Wish there was a way to get everything we need in the Draft, but Brooking is on his last year in the league and we have zero quality depth behind him and Brady James.

I didn't know him before the draft but after reading about him and seeing some of his play I think he has some intagibles that we need. Brooking IS getting old if not already old and Bobby is in the last year of his contract. I seriously doubt we give him an extension. Even though it wasn't a pressing need it was a good pick. He can play both spots so if Williams turns out to be a player we have our signal caller of the future in Lee. That's just my two cents.

Maybe a better way to phrase it would go something like this

"I dont understand why some people who didnt agree with the pick went straight to whining while others tried to learn about the guy and than change their tune".

Just a thought.

Oh, so maybe I wasn't being rash in my description?

Cool.

Lee, unlike Carpenter and J Williams, can play the nickel AND fill in for the starters effectively.

I was originally disappointed that we didn't draft a safety but Lee is exactly the kind of linebacker I tried to be in high school and in the Army. I tried to emulate another Penn State linebacker, Shane Conlan, when I started playing linebacker. Lee is my type of linebacker and the pick is growing on me.

By the way, we have so many LB's right now that we don't have a single 50 number available for Lee. He will have to wear 95 for now until someone is cut/traded.

Now can we please get a safety? Please?
