40 times:

Antonio Gates - 4.60
Rico Gathers - 4.84

Rico's not slow. He's just bigger than everyone else so it looks like he's running slow with those long legs. Those long strides will put you in the rear view though.

Gathers isn't fast, but he would look like he has blazing speed running beside Witten.

Rico Gathers was never on the active roster last season. He was released, cleared waivers and signed to a Practice Squad contract.

He should be eligible to participate in the rookie mini-camp.

Charles Tapper was on the active roster last year before going to Injured Reserve and is not eligible.

I don't think that is accurate.

He will be on the 53, remember when swaim went down? Our offense really fell off because we didn't have anyone that could block and still be a decent threat in the passing game. Hopefully he has learned enough to take on that role. If the hype is real next season he can take more of wittens role, if not the whole thing if he retires. Then again swaim showed he can't be brushed aside, never bad to have competition.

if he really was doing such great things last year why dnot don't they add him to the 53 last year?

Lol. I wonder what Witten's 40 time was.

Edit: Witten's time was 4.65... WOW :omg::huh:

Yeah Witten had it all coming out of college. He wasn't a dominating blocker back then but he had the tools to do it. He has regressed significantly in the speed department and his blocking effectiveness is bellow average now.

Man, for all the non-anointing brew ha ha...you should have been around since the very beginning of our Dallas Cowboys. Transformations from caterpillars to butterflies are not an abnormal occurrence around here. Quite a few players have come from non-football to top shelf...Bob Hayes comes to mind first.

I think we're going in the season with three TE's. Witt, Swain and Rico.

Everybody is so excited about this draft, but there are a few players from last year's draft that we haven't even seen yet. Damn our future is bright!

Coaches obviously didn't think he was ready, wanted to give him another 9 months to keep progressing. With 9 months he might turn into a contributer this year. The passing game is one thing but they played him at OL last year for a reason. Play some special teams and block and be a little bit of a factor in the passing game and I think it's a huge success for year 2.

I think he gets red zone opportunities this year. He will play himself into that role in training camp. That's my hot steamy take.

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see that happen...if he would be effective around the goal line and STILL have Dez on the other side? wooooo......but the guy hasn't even made a high school roster yet...

McClay and SDotJones saw enough in him to draft him. That's enough to keep me on the positive side of things.

So many around here believe Rico being successful is far fetched.
Because it is.

It isn't impossible.

And maybe even today it's probable.

But sixth round draft picks rarely work out period yet alone those who are a half decade from actually playing the sport. No reason to be skeptical of those who are skeptical and prefer to have Rico show us rather than tell us.

And I like the kid a lot.

Yeah. Antonio Gates finding success as an UDRFA was pretty improbable too.

My understanding is that if a player has less than a certain amount of vested time they are practice squad eligible. I believe RICO would be practice squad eligible. I do not believe he will be on the practice squad again this year though.

Gates is great, but if he can be a threat like Tyler Eifert I'll take that any day of the week.
